Spoon River Anthology opens Thursday

Thursday is opening night for the Wayne Community College Foundation's presentation of "Spoon River."
Show times are 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday in the Moffatt Auditorium on the college campus.
The play is based on the "Spoon River Anthology," by Edgar Lee Masters. The collection of poems describes the residents of the little town of Spoon River -- each one telling his or her life's story from the grave. The volume was published in 1914.
Most of the actors in the play play multiple roles. The cast of about 20 people includes students, faculty and community members.
Geoff Hulse will play four characters.
That's what's interesting about the show," Hulse said. "I get to be a loud, whiny guy, a mild mannered guy and a booming politician. It's different. You're not playing the same person the whole time."
"It's challenging to let the audience know you're a different character by a subtle change in your costume or your voice," said Laura Shiver, who portrays both a homewrecker and an old woman.
The play is being directed by Rosalyn Lomax.
