Boy injured
on four-wheeler
An 8-year-old boy riding a four-wheeler was struck by a car Friday night on Old Grantham Road, the Highway Patrol reported today.
Darain Robert Brinson of Linen Lane was injured at about 6:55 p.m. near Blackjack Church Road. He was rushed by a Wayne County ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said.
No charges were filed against the driver of the car, Luz Aurora Martinez Valles, 19, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley.
State Trooper R.S. Powell wrote that Brinson was riding on the right shoulder and Ms. Valles pulled out to pass the four-wheeler. But the boy also pulled onto the road, the report said, and the car struck the rear of the four-wheeler. Both vehicles stopped off the left side.
Damage was estimated at $2,000 to the car and $800 to the four-wheeler.
Driver named
The driver of a pickup truck that was swept into the Neuse River on Thursday was identified in a Highway Patrol report filed today as Aaron Lee Bragg, 34, of Ash Landing.
Bragg was backing the pickup and a boat trailer down the N.C. Wildlife boat ramp off Ferry Bridge Road at about 11:12 a.m. He told Trooper J.S. Smith that the trailer came off the ramp and he tried to back further into the water so that he could lift the trailer up and place it back on the ramp.
As he backed the truck into the water, Smith said, a strong current pulled the boat trailer and the truck into the river. Bragg managed to return to shore. The truck was recovered, but the boat trailer was lost.
Water damage to the truck was listed at $27,000. No charges were filed.
Six injured
Six people were injured and damages were estimated at $18,000 in five recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A passenger was injured in a one-vehicle wreck at 3:52 p.m. Sunday at East Elm Street and Linwood Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Sidney Brown, 18, of East Elm Street, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. His driver, Charmaine Adrienne Brown, 21, of East Elm Street, was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the van that she was driving ran off the right side and struck a tree. Damage was set at $3,500.
*Both drivers were injured in a two-car collision at 5:10 p.m. Friday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Ridgecrest Drive, police said. Tosharike Shewane Elam, 31, of Wayne Memorial Drive, and Olivia Henderson Walls, 52, of Massey Street, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Elam was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $4,500.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 10:35 a.m. Thursday on Casey Mill Road near N.C. 581, the Highway Patrol said. Charity Leigh Horne, 21, of Emmaus Church Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with reckless driving. The report said the car ran off the left side in a curve, she lost control of it and the car then careened off the right side and overturned. The car, valued at $2,000, was demolished.
*A driver was injured and her car demolished in a wreck at 3:15 p.m. Wednesday on Tom Herring Road near C.R. Lewis Dairy Road, the Highway Patrol said. Jamie Marie Wiley, 34, of Greg Drive was listed today in stable condition at Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. She was charged with reckless driving. The report said her car ran off the right side in a curve, she overcorrected the steering and it then ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $6,500.
*A driver was injured in a one-car crash at 10:30 a.m. April 4 on U.S. 70 near Community Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Henry U. Esealuka Jr., 21, of Willow Spring left Wayne Memorial Hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. He was charged with exceeding a safe speed after his car ran off the left side into the median, then came back off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. Damage was put at $1,500.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A laptop computer, a television, a video cassette recorder, a boom box, a grill, a cedar jewelry box and a compact disc were stolen Friday from a home in the 100 block of Indian Creek Road, deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, M.K. Ward, estimated the value of the stolen property at $870 and damage at $200.
*A stove, a refrigerator, a washer and a dryer were stolen between March 21 and Friday after a door was damaged in a rental home in the 100 block of Newcomb Drive, deputies said. The owner, Leon Earl Newcomb, estimated the stolen property's value at $1,000 and damage at $200.
*A red go-cart was stolen between Friday and Sunday from a yard in the 100 block of Vail Road, deputies said. The owner, Shawn Michael Clum, put a $3,000 value on it.
*A white, four-door 1988 Dodge Shadow was stolen Sunday from the Huddle House parking lot on U.S. 117 South, deputies said. The driver, Sharon Young of Raleigh, said the car was worth $800.
Woman robbed
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A Goldsboro woman said she was assaulted by a woman and robbed Saturday night of $40 in the 1900 block of South Slocumb Street, police said. Themesher M. Holt of Courtyard Circle described the robber as black, about 30, 5-feet-6 and 145 pounds with short curly black hair and brown eyes. She said she did not report the holdup until Sunday because she did not have a phone.
*A black 1998 Ford Explorer was stolen Sunday from Robert Sutton Motors at 1905 N. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The vehicle was valued at $8,000.
Missing
A 47-year-old man from Dudley was reported missing Sunday by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Kenneth Ray Newkirk of 172 Mitchell Road was described as black, 5-feet-11 and 175 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was seen last at 5 a.m. Saturday. No clothing description was available. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
