If you want your Krispy Kreme doughnuts fresh and hot you'd better act fast.

Krispy Kreme is closing its shop at 2601 E. Ash St. at noon on Tuesday. A new Krispy Kreme shop under construction next door will open in late May, said public relations coordinator Dee Harper.

The current store has been open for 25 years. A groundbreaking for the new location was held in October 2004.

"We're glad to get this long-awaited construction project started," said Tracey Cole, the manager of the Goldsboro Krispy Kreme store.

Ms. Harper said the new shop will feature more flexible seating and "a better view of the doughnut making process." The new store also will debut an expanded beverage line featuring espresso-based drinks in addition to the line of coffees Krispy Kreme already offers.

While construction of the new store is underway, fund-raising doughnuts will still be available, Ms. Harper said. Route delivery to grocery and convenience stores also will continue uninterrupted. To order fund-raising doughnuts, people may call 735-1048.
