'Amnesty Day' at landfill gives residents chance to toss trash

Wayne County residents can tackle some clean-up tasks later this month, and save some money at the same time.
The county commissioners have declared Saturday, April 30, as "Amnesty Day" at the county landfill on South Landfill Road.
From 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., the county will waive the normal tipping fee for all county residents.
The amnesty does not apply to commercial businesses or waste haulers.
Amnesty Day will benefit those who want to throw out wood, bricks, limbs, yard waste and construction debris, all of which the landfill accepts, but usually at a price.
Furniture, white goods and tires are already accepted at the landfill for free.
Hazardous wastes or liquids are never accepted at the landfill, and Amnesty Day is no exception.
The county set the day in conjunction with "Litter Sweep In Wayne County," which is scheduled for April 30.
Litter Sweep is a joint effort by Wayne County, the city of Goldsboro, the N.C. Department of Transportation and Keep Wayne County Beautiful. For more information, people may call the county manager's office at 731-1435.
