Lawrence Rouse to be installed as JSCC president

KENANSVILLE -- James Sprunt Community College will install Dr. Lawrence L. Rouse as its fifth president at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Monk Auditorium of the Hoffler Building at its main campus in Kenansville.
The installation will be a part of the college's annual convocation exercises. The convocation exercises will also recognize major donors to the James Sprunt Foundation for 2004.
A reception in the college's art gallery following the ceremonies will give the public an opportunity to meet Rouse and to view the works of students in the Advertising & Graphic Design program.
Rouse, a native of Sumter, S.C., officially began his tenure as James Sprunt Community College president in January after being selected by the college's board of trustees to succeed Dr. Mary T. Wood, who retired.
Prior to coming to JSCC, Rouse had served as Dean of Student Services at Johnston Community College, in Smithfield since June 2000. Prior to that, he had served in several capacities at Central Carolina Technical College in Sumter, S.C., since 1982. His most recent position at Central Carolina was as associate vice president for enrollment management and dean of student affairs. Other prior work experience includes being Manpower Director and Social Services Coordinator in Sumter.
Rouse earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Voorhees College in Denmark, S.C. and holds a Master's of Education from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He received his Doctorate of Education in Adult and Community College Education from North Carolina State University.
He is a graduate of the North Carolina Future Presidents Institute and a graduate of the American Association of Community College's Future Leaders Institute. He is also an alumnus of Leadership North Carolina. He is a member of the National Council on Student Development, the National Council on Black American Affairs and the North Carolina Association for International Educators.
Installation ceremonies for Rouse will feature comments from three of his mentors and friends -- Dr. Donald Reichard, president of Johnston Community College; Al Warrick, dean of advancement at Johnston Community College; and Dr. Edgar J. Boone, the W. Dallas Herring Professor Emeritus for the Department of Adult and Community College Education at N.C. State University.
