Grant, Jeffreys will be honored

Two Goldsboro natives who went on to conquer Hollywood will return this month to be honored during a "From Tinseltown to Hometown" celebration.
Anne Jeffreys and Johnny Grant, who became famous in the world of entertainment, have been invited back home to take part in the festivities that begin Friday, April 22, and run through Sunday, April 24.
The celebration is being sponsored by the Foundation of Wayne Community College.
Plans for one part of the weekend's events have changed. As a result of the fire that destroyed the Paramount Theater, a local version of the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been moved from Center Street to the Wayne Community College campus.
A schedule of the weekend events follows.
On Friday evening, "An Interview with Johnny Grant," begins at 6 p.m. at Walnut Creek Country Club. Carl Kasell of National Public Radio, who also has Goldsboro ties, will interview Grant. The evening will include cocktails and dinner.
"A Tribute to Anne Jeffreys" will take place in Moffatt Auditorium on the Wayne Community College campus Saturday night at 8. The evening's program will feature a montage of Miss Jeffreys' works as well as an interview by Dr. Geoff Weiss and performances of songs from her theater career. The grand finale will be a performance by Miss Jeffreys. The program will be preceded by cocktail parties in private homes beginning at 6:30, and followed by a reception.
Tickets are $50 per person for each event.
On Sunday at 2:30 p.m., Grant and Miss Jeffreys will be recognized during ceremonies to open the college's honorary walk along the sidewalk near the new clock on campus. Admission is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
