Wayne native chosen to lead Special Libraries Association

CHAPEL HILL -- Rebecca Brogden Vargha, a librarian at the School of Information and Library Science at UNC-Chapel Hill and a Wayne County native, has been chosen the next president-elect of the Special Libraries Association.
She will serve as president of the 12,000-member international association beginning in June 2006. She is the first North Carolinian to hold the office.
Vargha has been an active leader with the association since 1980. She served as president of the North Carolina chapter and has been chairan of the national SLA committees, including the organization's Museums, Arts and Humanities division and its Government Relations Committee.
She is the faculty advisor to the SLA student group at UNC-Chapel Hill and in 1994 won the SLA Meritorious Achievement Award for outstanding professional contributions.
Vargha is a graduate of Southern Wayne High School and holds a B.A. in English from UNC-Chapel Hill and a master's degree in library science from North Carolina Central University.
