PRINCETON -- Sen. Elizabeth Dole will announce a large grant for Princeton's sewer plant project on Thursday at Princeton School.
She will join officials from the Rural Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture and town leaders in making the announcement at 10 a.m. in the school library.
Princeton Mayor Don Rains said the town will receive a $1.5 million grant from the USDA for the project that will overhaul the town's aging sewer plant.
The town also has received a $300,000 grant from the North Carolina Rural Center to repair sewer lines and a $400,000 low-interest loan to complete the project. The loan will be repaid at 4.5 percent interest over 40 years.
Princeton had been fined numerous times by the state for environmental violations, including sewage spills.
