An accident that involved two trucks and a van tied up traffic on U.S. 13 North for a while Wednesday afternoon.

According to N.C. Highway Patrol reports, around 2:45 p.m., a tractor-trailer operated by Southco was headed south on the highway, near Tommy's Road, when it rear-ended a Ryder van and jackknifed.

The truck then sideswiped a UPS truck that was driving north.

All three vehicles ended up in ditches along the highway, although the Southco truck was still partially in the road.

The Highway Patrol charged the Southco driver, John Robert Brinson Jr., 59, of Pittman Street, with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Brinson and the UPS driver, James Robert Ellis, 50, of Friendly Road, were both treated for minor injuries and released.

The Highway Patrol did not have information about possible injury of the van driver, James Sperro of Garner.
