Twenty-six students joined Wayne Community College's honor society during the spring induction ceremony. The students accepted the invitation to join the Upsilon Chi chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges.
Phi Theta Kappa members represent the top 10 percent of students enrolled in two-year schools. To be invited, WCC students must show academic achievement with a minimum of a 3.5 grade point average and have completed a minimum of 16 hours of course work leading to an associate degree.

Christina Pate, a senior at Arendell Parrott Academy in Kinston, has been awarded an Academic Merit Scholarship by New York University. She is the daughter of Ms. Gayle Pate and George Pate of Goldsboro. She will enroll at NYU this fall.
James Kenan High School student Taylor Lanier was a page for a week at the state House of Representatives. She was sponsored by Rep. Russell Tucker of Duplin County. Pages deliver bills and other paperwork for representatives during legislative sessions. She is the daughter of Marshall and Bertha Taylor Miller of Warsaw.
