School days off
The Wayne County public schools have several holidays and early dismissal days for students this month.
Monday is a teacher workday. There will be no school for students.
Students will be dismissed early on March 22 in order for teachers to attend staff development workshops. This is one of 12 days set aside in the school calendar for student early dismissal. Additional minutes have been added to the school day to make up the time missed. Students will still receive the same number of instructional hours. Dismissal times will range from 12:15 to 1:35 p.m. Questions regarding specific dismissal times for each school should be directed to the individual child's school.
Friday, March 25, is a teacher workday and Monday, March 28, is a holiday for the schools and central office staff. March 29, 30, 31, and April 1 are annual leave days, with no school for students on these dates.
Meeting date changed
The Board of Education voted Monday night to change its meeting date next month. The board typically meets the first Monday of the month but due to the spring break that preceeds it, decided to move its next meeting to April 11. The time has also been pushed back an hour, with closed session to start at 5 p.m. and the public meeting to begin at 6 p.m.
'Wizard of Oz'
Due to the loss of the Paramount Theater, Center Stage Theatre will present "The Wizard of Oz" at Dillard High School, 1101 Devereaux St., on Fridays through Saturdays, April 22, 23, 29 and 30, at 8 p.m., and on Sunday, April 24 at 3 p.m.
Because of the large number of seats available at Dillard, reserve seating will not be used.
Tickets will be sold at the door. Advance tickets are now on sale online at cstheatre.org, and will be available at the Arts Council of Wayne County after Friday, April 1. More information can be obtained by calling 736-3300.
