The future of the Paramount Theater, the replacement for the Community Building, and the long-discussed civic center are all expected to be on the table this week at the Goldsboro City Council's annual retreat.
City officials will convene at noon Wednesday at the Royal Pavilion hotel at Atlantic Beach. The retreat will end at noon Friday.
The retreat will give new City Manager Joe Huffman a chance to know his council members better as they are planning to take Myers-Briggs personality exams Wednesday, discuss the results and talk about how personality types affect group dynamics.
The retreat will then move into priorities and goals for the next few years. The capital projects are set to be debated Friday morning.
Before the council leaves town, though, it still has to deal with Monday's agenda.
A hearing is set for 7 p.m. on the city's plan to refinance $6.3 million in bond debt that was issued in 1997. Lowering the interest rates would save the city money, officials say.The police department has asked for permission to accept around $16,500 in state and federal funds related to drug seizures.
The council also needs to resolve several pending land-use requests:
*Oak Forest Development's request that five acres on the south side of New Hope Road, between Patetown Road and Catherine Street, be rezoned to R-12 residential.
*Pediatric Play Therapy's request that 3.5 acres, including a house, on the south side of Tommys Road, between Hare Road and Green Circle, be rezoned from residential use to office and institutional.
*A rezoning of a portion of the Wayne Community College campus to allow U.S. Cellular to build an 180-foot tower.
*A special-use request for Wheels of Goldsboro to relocate to the east side of U.S. 117, between Arrington Bridge Road and Old Mount Olive Highway.
*A special-use request for Gary Gregory, which would allow a new Auto Zone to be built on the east side of N.C. 111, just south of the U.S. 70 interchange.
*A request to give up the right-of-way for Miller Place and Thomas Place, two unopened streets off Randall Lane in the Ravenwood subdivision.
*A request to close sections of East Mulberry Street, North Durant Street and Stoney Creek Lane, which run through city-owned property off Ash Street, near Stoney Creek.
The City Council's meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Monday in its chambers, second floor of Goldsboro City Hall.
