Lecture on France
Fe Finch, a foreign language instructor at Wayne Community College, will lead a noontime lecture and discussion on "France as Part of the European Community" on Monday, March 14, at the college.
The event will be held from noon to 2 p.m. in room 145 of the Dogwood Building. Participants may bring their lunches and beverages. It is co-sponsored by WCC's Cultural Diversity/Global Education Task Force and is open to the public.

Duplin landfill day
The Duplin County landfill will be open on April 2 to take all kinds of household items with no charge.
The county's old landfill on Landfill Road northeast of Rose Hill will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. with several disposal places, including one for major appliances, one for scrap metals, and one for yard waste, blocks and bricks.
There will be a storage trailer for tires, and the transfer station will take furnishings, construction debris and garbage. The only things they can't take will be asbestos, liquids or hazardous waste.
The Duplin County Board of Commissioners have waived the tipping fee for that day for items resulting from cleanup activities. The usual $40 per ton charge for household furnishings such as couches, tables, chairs, mattresses and box springs, construction debris resulting from do-it-yourself renovations, and household garbage has been waived. The $15 per ton fee for yard waste has also been waived. Disposal for tires, scrap metals, and major appliances is always free. Commercial and contract haulers will be charged the normal tipping fee.
The cleanup day is part of Duplin's participation in Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup, the nation's largest annual community improvement program.
