Victim improves
A man who was shot in the chest during a fight near a night club in western Lenoir County was listed in good condition at a hospital, officials said.
Defonzia Faison, 24, of Candy Place, Dudley, was wounded early Sunday outside of Smitty's, a night club on N.C. 903, northeast of Seven Springs. He was rushed to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville in critical condition.
But by Wednesday, his condition had improved to good, a spokesman said.
Another man, Antrail Terria Stephenson Stukes, 22, of Kornegay Street, Mount Olive, was shot in the leg during the fight and later died.
The alleged gunman, Donald White, 42, of LaGrange, was held by onlookers until deputies arrived. He has been charged with murder.
Trucks damaged
Three city trucks were vandalized and a parking shelter was damaged between Tuesday and Wednesday at the city maintenance garage at 1001 Clingman St., according to a Goldsboro police report. Damages were estimated at $9,612.
Vandals discharged a fire extinguisher in one truck and then drove and wrecked two others, the report said. One garbage truck was driven into a support beam for the parking shelter, and the other garbage truck rammed a trailer.
Damage was estimated at $4,000 to the shelter, $2,500 each to a garbage truck and a pickup truck, $100 to the other garbage truck, $500 to a radio and $12 to the fire extinguisher.
Drug charges
Three people were arrested Thursday by authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*James Arthur Thompson, 49, of Brazil Street was charged by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond.
*Vanessa Johnson, 41, of West Grantham Street was charged by Goldsboro police with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She also was held on an arrest order for a probation violation. She was jailed in lieu of a $8,000 secured bond.
*Victor Ingram, 35, of Jake Drive, Dudley, was charged by police with possession of cocaine. He also was held on two outstanding arrest orders from the Sheriff's Office. He was jailed in lieu of secured bonds totaling $6,000.
False pretense
Two people were arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police officers and charged with obtaining property by false pretense.
Katherine Smith Heath, 19, and Ricky Lee Thomas, 25, both of Central Heights Road, were accused of passing checks on closed accounts to buy items and then returning the merchandise for cash refunds, police said.
Ms. Heath was accused of buying $223.60 worth of clothes at Belk's, and Thomas was accused of buying $411.36 worth of property at Wal-Mart, police said.
Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*An oak table and four oak chairs were stolen and three doors were damaged between Tuesday and Wednesday at Castle Manufactured Homes at 6033 U.S. 70 East, LaGrange, sheriff's deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $695. Damage was set at $1,100.
*A DVD player was stolen Wednesday after a door was forced open at a home in the 1400 block of Dobbersville Road, deputies said. The resident, William Frederick Frye, put a $200 value on the player.
