Mount Olive man
is fatally shot
SEVEN SPRINGS -- A 22-year-old Mount Olive man was fatally shot early Sunday, and another man was listed today in critical condition at a hospital after a fight near a Lenoir County nightclub.
The victim, identified as 22-year-old Antrail Terria Stephenson Stukes of Kornegay Street, was shot in the leg. His cousin, Defonzia Faison, 24, of Candy Place, Dudley, was taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville for treatment of a chest wound.
The accused gunman, Donald White, 42, of LaGrange, also was injured during a struggle with bystanders. He taken Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston for treatment. White was charged with murder. If Faison dies, White will be charged with a second count of murder, officials said.
The shooting occurred at about 4 a.m. outside of Smitty's, a club on N.C. 903, northeast of Seven Springs.
Lenoir County Sheriff's Detective Capt. Mike Hatcher said White was wrestling with Faison and fired several shots from a small handgun. One struck Faison in the chest and another hit Stukes in the leg, possibly severing an artery.
Stukes died before rescue personnel could get him to a hospital.
Hatcher said the shooting may have followed an argument. Stukes, Faison and a third man may have argued with White in small building next to the nightclub. After the shooting, club owner Johnny Smith called 911, and onlookers detained White until deputies arrived.
Crime of the Week
The murder of a Goldsboro man has been selected by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as this week's "Crime of the Week."
Lashonnie Maurice Howell, 33, of 1902-B John Court was shot several times at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Waffle House restaurant at 2000 Wayne Memorial Drive. He was rushed to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries

More charges
FREMONT -- A Mount Olive man accused of assaulting and robbing four elderly women in Wayne County now has been charged with the strong-armed robbery of an 87-year-old woman from Eureka.
James Lenair Albrittain, 29, of Silver Street was charged by Fremont police with felony common-law robbery. Albrittain's secured bond was set at $7,500. He already was being held in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $125,000 secured bond.
Fremont Police Chief Ben Reid said Albrittain was accused of snatching the purse from a woman on Feb. 4 as she entered the Fremont Library.
11 hurt
in wrecks
Seven people were injured and damages were estimated at $153,200 in 15 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*Damages were estimated at $5,900 in a three-vehicle collision at 1:03 p.m. Monday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Country Day Road, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Ranisa Laverne Coley, 20, of West Newsome Street, Fremont, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other drivers -- Latarsha B. Pallamollo, 33, of Homestead Drive and Matthew Frank Turcotte, 34, of Tinder Place -- had stopped because of traffic.
*Two people were injured and a new car was demolished in a wreck at 6:47 p.m. Sunday on Norwayne School Road near Airport Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Jason Owen Grider, 24, of Howell Road, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. His passenger, Robert Ucciardi, 23, of Tina Avenue, Pikeville, was listed today in stable condition in intensive care, a hospital spokeswoman said. Grider was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car ran off the right side, came back across the road out of control, ran off the left side, struck a bank, overturned, hit the bank again and rolled to a stop on the road. The car, registered by Toyota of Goldsboro, was valued at $20,000.
*Damages were estimated at $5,900 in a two-vehicle crash at 1:11 p.m. Saturday on Old Grantham Road near Tyndall Drive, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Howard William Hoff, 71, of Ridge Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash. The other motorist, Subrina T. Stone, 44, of Summerlin Road, was charged with driving while impaired.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 12:35 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 581 near Nahunta Road, the Highway Patrol said. One motorist, Randy Joseph Pate, 24, of Nahunta Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Philip Henry Poston, 52, of Pamlico, S.C.
*A driver was charged with reckless driving after he lost control of his car in a turn on Mount Airy Road at 2:38 a.m. Saturday, the Highway Patrol said. The car ran off the left side, came back across the road off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned, troopers said. The driver, Robert Seth McCarter, 23, of Cadel Lane, was not hurt. But his car, valued at $9,500, was demolished.
*Damages were estimated at $6,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 2:25 p.m. Friday at N.C. 55 and Kelly Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Shonn Elrayee Sovae, 60, of Summerlins Crossroads Road, Mount Olive, was charged with a yield violation. The report said Sovae's northbound pickup truck collided with an eastbound car, driven by Gualfri Salas Mejia, 22, of Jimmy Drive, Seven Springs.
*Two cars were demolished in a wreck at 11:28 a.m. Friday on Wayne Memorial Drive near Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Brenda Gail West, 59, of U.S. 13 North, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Ms. West was turning into a convenience store parking lot and her car collided with an oncoming northbound auto, driven by Myong O. Kwon, 27, of Crosscut Place. The cars were valued at $8,800.
*Damages were estimated at $21,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:45 a.m. Friday at U.S. 70 and Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Glenn Devin Herring, 25, of Indian Springs Road, Seven Springs, was charged with a stoplight violation. Troopers said Herring's westbound sport utility vehicle collided with a southbound car, driven by Sally Ann Sayer, 49, of Edgebrook Drive, Pikeville.
*Damages were estimated at $7,800 and both drivers were charged in a crash at 7:35 p.m. Friday on Dollard Town Road near N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Michael Earl Bass, 17, of Big Daddy's Road, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed. David Anthony Greats, 34, of Dollard Town Road was charged with driving left of center. Greats had started to turn around in the road, and the car that he was driving stalled, troopers said.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a three-car crash at 2:40 p.m. Friday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Cashwell Drive, police said. One driver, Garney Lee Gardner Jr., 43, of Mark Edwards Road, was charged with reckless driving, hit and run and no operator's license. Police said Gardner turned right from the left lane and the car that he was driving collided with a northbound car driven by Sharon Wanda McCoy, 45, of Hollywood, Fla. The impact sent the Gardner car into a stopped car that was leaving a parking lot and was driven by Jennifer Latrice Hocutt, 20, of Edgerton Street. Gardner fled but was arrested later.
*A driver was injured and damages were set at $17,000 in a three-vehicle wreck at 11:15 a.m. Friday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Sara Ann McDowell, 33, of School Road, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. Another motorist, Levon Willard Kennedy Jr., 45, of Woodland Church Road, Albertson, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Troopers said Kennedy was crossing U.S. 70 and the northbound pickup that he was driving collided with Ms. McDowell's westbound sport utility vehicle. The impact pushed Ms. McDowell's SUV into a stopped, southbound van, driven by George Clayton Worrell Jr., 57, of Moore Allen Street, Dudley.
*Damages were estimated at $13,800 in a two-truck collision at 5 p.m. Friday on Old Smithfield Road near Ferry Bridge Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Jonathan Carl Mozingo, 34, of Old Smithfield Road, Princeton, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Troopers said he had stopped to get his mail on the left side of the road, then started to turn to his driveway and collided with another pickup. The other driver was identified as Rudolph Baker, 70, of Princeton Road, Princeton.
*Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-car crash at 1:15 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 70 near Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Shawn Derrill Stevens, 23, of Benton Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation, after sideswiping another car in the right lane. The other motorist was identified as Johnny Edward Long, 56, of Raleigh.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a one-car wreck at 2:50 p.m. Thursday on Eagles Nest Road near Pine Branch Lane, the Highway Patrol said. Edward Frank Hinson, 58, of South Center Street was released after emergency-room treatment. He was charged with driving left of center after his car ran off the right side, then careened back off the left side out of control, struck a culvert, ran over a fence and overturned. The car, valued at $4,500, was demolished.
*Three drivers were injured and all three pickup trucks were demolished in a collision at 6:31 a.m. Feb. 15 at N.C. 581 and Memorial Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Douglas Gary Baker, 31, of East Parks Road, and Meliton Figueroa Utrera, 30, of Wilson were released after emergency-room treatment. Gary Len Newell, 47, of Pinkney Road, Fremont, was airlifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville, where his condition was not immediately known. Baker, the report said, was going west and did not stop at the stop sign and his pickup collided with Newell's northbound pickup and then struck the southbound truck that Utrera was driving. The pickups were valued at $15,000.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A computer monitor and $115 were stolen between Saturday and Monday from North Wayne Animal Hospital at 5393 U.S. 117 North, Pikeville, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had smashed a window to get inside. The monitor was valued at $100, and damage was set at $350. Other computer equipment and a television also were stolen but were recovered outside.
*Video-game equipment and two $2 bills were stolen between Friday and Monday after a window was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Weathersby Drive, deputies said. The resident, Charles Herman Lane, estimated the value of the stolen property at $319 and damage at $15.
*A coat, shoes and other clothing were stolen Monday and a home in the 100 block of Lockmere Drive was ransacked and damaged, deputies said. The resident, T.K. Johnson, put a $890 value on the stolen property. No damage estimate was listed.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A Goldsboro woman was robbed Monday of $150 and a gold ring by two people in the 300 block of West Oak Street, police said. Lakeisha E. Langston, 28, told police that she met a man and a woman whom she knew at 3:40 p.m. and they jumped her. The ring was valued at $250.
*Two televisions, two DVD players, jeans, boots and shoes were stolen between Sunday and Monday from a home in the 1300 block of North Drive, police said. The resident, Jobias Vondrea Artis, put a $1,229 value on the property. No sign of forced entry was listed.
*A repossessed silver, four-door 1997 Ford Taurus was stolen between Friday and Monday from Adamsville Auto Sales at 109 S. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The car was valued at $4,500.
Drug charges
Two women have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Alishea Corrine Brown, 21, of West Oak Street has been arrested by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $3,000 secured bond.
*Heather Diane Stewart, 21, of N.C. 581 North was arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was jailed in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
