Duplin officials raise fees, charge for fire inspections

KENANSVILLE -- Duplin County residents will soon be paying fees for fire inspections that used to be free.
The Duplin County Board of Commissioners agreed Monday to adopt a fee schedule for the Emergency Services Department's fire inspections.
It will cost $50 for a permit and plan review for a building up to 5,000 square feet. But it will cost $75 for a large business and sprinkler system's permit, plan review and first inspection. It's $75 for a building up to 10,000 square feet, $100 for one up to 25,000 square fee and $125 for one over 25,000 square feet.
It will cost $50 for a blasting permit, a special assembly like a gun show or craft show and any other special function requiring fire inspection or approval.
It will cost $50 for a sprinkler certification test, fire alarm test, standpipe test and hood system and fixed fire suppression. It will also cost $50 each to do tank removal, tank installation and pipe inspection and pressure testing.
Special user permits are $25 for churches, fireworks displays, tents larger than 700 square feet and all temporary air structures.
A parking ticket will be $50.
To fog for insects, it will cost $25 for the permit.
It will cost $10 for a permit to have a temporary kiosk or display for merchandising.
