The Wayne County Health Department is conducting a salary survey to better position itself in getting applicants and retaining employees.
Vicky Hill, administrative officer with the Health Department, said the information will be helpful in making preparations for next year's budget. She said the surveys were sent to Health Departments in such counties as Harnett, Orange, Sampson, Lenoir, Johnston and Craven.
Health Director James Roosen "decided the salary survey would help us get an idea of the salaries in other counties around us with similar populations," she said.
Among the areas covered were environmental health, social work, medical staff, nutrition, clerical support, and nursing staff. In addition to asking about average salary ranges, the survey sought information about training salaries and incentives used by other health departments.
Almost all of the counties solicited have responded, Ms. Hill said, with information providing on existing positions comparable to those in Wayne County. She said the information will be analyzed before any decisions are made.
