Brothers charged
Three teen-aged brothers, including twins, were arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County sheriff's detectives and charged with two felony offenses in a home invasion and aggravated assault.
Josh Scott Lane, 19, Preston Lee Lane, 17, and Justin Allen Lane, 17, of Eva Lane, Stantonsburg, were charged with first-degree burglary and assault inflicting serious injury. Each was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $40,000 secured bond.
The three were accused of barging into a home Friday in New Hope and beating the resident, Detectives Robert Chunn and Mike Reid said. The man was admitted to Wayne Memorial Hospital, underwent surgery for facial injuries and remains hospitalized, officials said.
Detectives said the assault stemmed from an earlier argument between two groups.
Wanted
A 35-year-old man is wanted by Goldsboro police for a probation violation. Timmy Terrell Stevens was described as black, 5-feet-8 and 184 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. His last-known address was on Dixie Trail.
Anyone with information on Stevens' location was asked to call Investigator M.K. Horstmann at 580-4213 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
Thefts
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Thieves smashed a door glass between Wednesday night and dawn today and ransacked the Handy Mart at 2495 U.S. 13 North, deputies said. A cash register was found on the floor. Damage was set at $400. Employees had not determined if anything had been stolen. Evidence was recovered at the store.
*An air compressor, a telephone, a copy machine, a television, a microwave oven, an electric heater and a shop vacuum were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from Bell's Auto Sales at 4305 U.S. 70 West, Princeton, deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The stolen property was valued at $514, and damage was set at $150.
*Several vehicles were damaged and a television was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday in the 4200 block of U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley, deputies said. The resident and owner, Oliver Ray Best, reported damages to four mirrors and a fender. The TV was stolen after a barn door was damaged. The TV was valued at $150, and damages were estimated at $1,125.
*A digital camera, a cell phone, a briefcase, a purse with $50 and personal papers, a pager and keys were stolen Wednesday after a car window was smashed in the Neuse River Shopping Center parking lot, deputies said. The owner, L.F. Johnson of Dudley, estimated the value of the stolen property at $780 and damage at $150.
*A white Dodge that was left by a Florida man to be repaired was stolen between Dec. 1 and Wednesday from the 100 block of Hack Drive, deputies said. Dock Hunt of Ruskin, Fla., said the van was worth $2,500. The report said the van had been sold for parts.
*A disabled red Chevrolet Cavalier was stolen between Monday and Wednesday from the 2000 block of Nor-Am Road, deputies said. The owner and resident, Montrel Grantham, said the car was worth $1,200.
Man wounded
A 26-year-old man from Mount Olive was wounded Wednesday night in the 1600 block of Royall Avenue, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Jai K. Kornegay of Breazeale Avenue fled from a parking lot and was picked up by a woman who took him to Wayne Memorial Hospital. Kornegay was treated for a back wound and released, a spokeswoman said.
Kornegay said he ran after being shot and then heard several more gunshots. He described the assailant as someone wearing gray clothes.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A gray, four-door 1987 Honda Accord was stolen Wednesday from the 1700 block of Edgerton Street, police said. The owner and resident, Christy Wilson, said a man guest took the keys after she went to another room. The car was worth $2,400.
*A man let another man test-drive his car that was for sale on Tuesday, and the other man never brought it back, police said. Robin E. Hall of Greenville said his gold, four-door 1989 Mercedes 300SE was taken from a convenience store at 518 E. Elm St. The car was worth $4,000.
Accidents
Four people were injured and damages were estimated at $87,300 in six recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A southbound driver from Mount Olive was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at South Audubon and Evergreen avenues, Goldsboro police said. Willie McKinley Sutton III, 30, of East Williamson Street was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokesman said. A westbound motorist, William M. Warren, 50, of Radford Drive, was charged with a stop-sign violation. Damages were set at $4,000.
*A driver was injured in a two-vehicle crash at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday at North Berkeley Boulevard and an exit ramp from Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, police said. Evelyn F. Pearsall, 52, of Daffodil Drive, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other westbound driver, David Rouse, 40, of Deep Run, was charged with failure to reduce speed. Damages were put at $100.
*A driver said she swerved to miss a possum on U.S. 117, north of O'Berry Road, at 5:55 a.m. Tuesday and lost control of her car, the Highway Patrol said. The car ran off the right side, struck a guardrail and stopped on the road. Kelli D. Cochran, 29, of Kenly Road was not injured or charged. But damage was estimated at $10,000 to her car and $4,000 to the guardrail.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $8,200 in a three-vehicle wreck at 3 p.m. Monday on U.S. 117 Alternate, south of Old Mount Olive Road, the Highway Patrol said. Lauren Renee Harrell, 17, of Hood Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. Another driver, James Brock Kirby Jr., 18, of Valley Road, Mount Olive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end wreck. The third southbound driver who was slowing to make a left turn to a driveway was identified as Teresa Ann Smith, 45, of U.S. 117 Alternate, Mount Olive.
*Two sport utility vehicles were demolished in a collision at 5:01 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Leslie Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, John Teackle Bell, 66, of North Jackson Street, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver, Glenda Lane Rogers, 38, of Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, was slowing to turn into a store parking lot. After the collision, Bell's SUV ran off the right side and rolled to a stop, and the SUV that Ms. Rogers was driving struck a power pole. Damages were set at $60,000 to the vehicles and $3,000 to the pole.
*A driver was injured in a one-car wreck at 7 p.m. Saturday on N.C. 55 near Grantham School Road, the Highway Patrol said. Timothy J. Miller, 23, of East Spencer was released after emergency-room treatment. Miller was charged with speeding. Damage was put at $2,000 to the car that had run off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. He said he had swerved to miss a deer in the road.
Safe robbery
A 24-year-old man was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony safecracking.
Randale Cleveland Stewart of Odom Farm Road, Dudley, was accused of breaking into a safe at the Huddle House on U.S. 117 South and stealing money, Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour said. Stewart was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
Drug charges
Two men have been arrested by Wayne County authorities and charged with felony drug offenses.
Johnnie Tyrell McKoy, 23, of Smithfield has been arrested by the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office after a traffic stop in Grantham.
McKoy was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
Cameron Barnes, 31, of Beal Street was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police on Bunche Drive and charged with possession of cocaine and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. He was jailed in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.
