Five injured
in accidents
Five people were injured and damages were estimated at $39,600 in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, lawmen reported.
*Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $10,000 in a two-car collision at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at 11th Street and the entrance to Deeper Life Church, Goldsboro police said. Danielle Patricia Moore, 20, of Stallings Street and Stephanie B. Barnes, 32, of McLain Street were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. Ms. Moore was charged with a safe-movement violation.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a two-car crash at 11:50 p.m. Sunday at North Spence Avenue and Forest Hills Drive, police said. Jason Matthew Howell, 22, of Edgerton Street was released after emergency-room treatment. He also was charged with an expired registration. The other driver, Luis Arnaldo Flores-Rodriguez, 32, of Garland Drive, Seven Springs, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Damages were set at $4,000.
*A motorcyclist lost control of his bike in a sharp curve on Wayne Memorial Drive, and it struck a ditch and overturned, throwing the rider into a swamp, the Highway Patrol said. Justine Ross St. John, 18, of Free Gospel Road, Snow Hill, was not injured, but he was charged with exceeding a safe speed. The motorcycle, valued at $7,000, was destroyed. The wreck occurred at 3:30 p.m. Sunday near Bartlett Road.
*A driver was hurt in a two-car collision at 3:10 p.m. Saturday on Durham Lake Road near Sandhill Drive, the Highway Patrol said. Yolanda Gail Darden, 29, of Durham Lake Road, Dudley, was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, Consuela Lekita Watson, 22, of Tilghman Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $2,500.
*Damages were estimated at $6,100 after a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer sideswiped each other at 3:45 p.m. Friday on U.S. 70 near Martin Road, the Highway Patrol said. No charges were filed. The drivers were identified as Nicholas Ryan Bittle, 23, of Cherry Point and Michael Eugene Barbour, 41, of Smithfield.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday at N.C. 111 and Pineview Cemetery Road, the Highway Patrol said. Gabriel Guerrero Larraga, 40, of Zion Church Road, Seven Springs was released after emergency-room treatment. Fidelindo Ortiz Perez, 22, of Cabin Creek Drive, Seven Springs, was charged with a yield violation and not having an operator's license.
*Damages were set at $5,000 in a two-car collision at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday on N.C. 581 near Claridge Nursery Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Lesli Ann Stevens, 18, of N.C. 581 North, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Michelle B. Mitchell, 34, of Bill Circle.
Investigations
About 1,500 feet of copper wiring and a metal saw were stolen between Saturday and Sunday from General Industries at 3048 Thoroughfare Road, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report. The thief also cut 10 padlocks to employee storage lockers and stole an undetermined amount of property. The stolen property was valued at $3,210. Damage was set at $100. A two-wheel cart also was stolen, and deputies followed the track to the woods.
Deputies also are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $4,180 worth of damages was inflicted on a mobile home in the 100 block of Crosscut Place, deputies said. The owner, Jean Anderson, reported that plasterboard, three doors, ceilings, a fire place, walls, a tub, a cabinet, three ceiling fans and a window were damaged.
*Three pit bull puppies were stolen Sunday after a fence was cut in the 1100 block of Dollard Town Road, deputies said. The resident, Jose Torres, put a $750 value on the dogs and set damage at $100.
*A compact disc player, a receiver, a camera and two lenses were stolen between Thursday and Sunday after a window was smashed at a home in the 100 block of Weathersby Drive, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $950, and damage was set at $250 at the Karsten E. Lipiec home.
*A home theater system, a television and a video-game system were stolen between Sunday and dawn today from a home in the 1400 block of Thunder Swamp Road, deputies said. The resident, Joseph Irvin Powell, put a $979 value on the property.
*An air compressor was stolen between Tuesday and Friday after barn doors were damaged in the 1700 block of Old Grantham Road, deputies said. The owner, Joseph Earl Kornegay of Warsaw, estimated the compressor's value at $300 and damage at $100. A chain saw also was stolen but was recovered in a field.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two MP3 players, a digital camera, a watch, computer supplies and other items were stolen Sunday after a truck window was smashed in a restaurant parking lot in the 600 block of North Berkeley Boulevard, police said. The owner, Peter Kenneth Hansma of Wendell, put a $1,425 value on the stolen property. No damage estimate was listed.
*A floor heater was stolen and a home in the 900 block of East Mulberry Street was vandalized, police said. Two doors, a floor, a water heater and a toilet were damaged. The owner, Bryan Marcoux of Goldsboro, said the floor heater was worth $1,000 and set damage at $2,600.
*Video-game equipment and a compact disc player were stolen Sunday after a window was broken in a home in the 600 block of Second Street, police said. The resident, Cassandra Silver, estimated the stolen property's value at $390 and damage at $75.
*A compact disc player was stolen Saturday after a car window was damaged in the 1700 block of East Holly Street, police said. The resident and owner, C.M. Eason, said the player was valued at $100 and estimated damage at $250.
*A purse with a cell phone and $20 was stolen Sunday after a vehicle window was shattered in a restaurant parking lot in the 2600 block of North Park Drive, police said. The owner, Susan Dalton of Goldsboro, estimated the stolen property's value at $190 and damage at $200.
*An American Cruiser go-cart was stolen between Saturday and Sunday from Tractor Supply Co. at 2901 Cashwell Drive, police said. The go-cart was valued at $860. The thief had cut a lock in order to steal it.
