Eight charges
A 42-year-old man from Georgia was arrested Wednesday night by Goldsboro police and charged with seven felony and one misdemeanor offenses.
Danny Ray Roberts of Kathleen, Ga., was charged with two felony counts of possession of stolen goods, forgery and uttering, one felony count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a misdemeanor larceny charge. Roberts was accused of committing the crimes in Battleboro and Deephaven, Minn.
Roberts was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $26,000 secured bond.
Weapons charges
A 21-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested before dawn today by Goldsboro police in a convenience store parking lot and charged with three firearms violations.
Clarence Jerome Smith of Frank Street was charged with two felonies, possession of stolen goods and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $30,000 secured bond.
Robbery
A Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday and charged with the strong-armed robbery of a woman in the Berkeley Mall parking lot.
Barry Sharper was charged by Goldsboro police with felony common-law robbery. His secured bond was set at $35,000. He already was being held in the Lenoir County Jail in Kinston on unrelated charges.
Sharper was accused of stealing the woman's pocketbook that had $123 on Jan. 21, Investigator Chad Calloway said.
Accidents
Damages were estimated at $14,500 Tuesday in two traffic accidents in Wayne County, the Highway Patrol reported.
*Damages were estimated at $7,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pikeville-Princeton and Nor-Am roads, the Highway Patrol said. A southbound driver, Anita M. Brown, 43, of Nor-Am Road, Pikeville, was charged with a stop-sign violation. The car that she was driving collided with an eastbound pickup truck, driven by Kathleen Anne House, 56, of Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville.
*A car was demolished in a wreck at 10:31 a.m. Tuesday on Wayne Memorial Drive, south of Saulston Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Albert Kevin Williams, 49, of Vanceboro, was charged with a lane-control violation. The car was valued at $7,000.
Break-ins
Two homes under construction and a third home were broken into, according to reports filed with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
*About $2,545 worth of construction tools was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a construction site in the 200 block of Park Road, deputies said. The owner, David Stroud of Richlands, reported the theft of four aluminum ladders, a saw table, a circular saw, a walk board and aluminum coil.
*An Amana heater and air conditioner unit was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a construction site in the 800 block of Nor-Am Road, deputies said. The thief had damaged the wiring to get the unit. The contractor, Ronald Sasser of Pikeville, put a $4,800 value on the unit and set damage at $800.
*A DVD player and 10 DVDs were stolen Wednesday after a door was damaged at a home in the 100 block of Mint Hill Drive, deputies said. The resident, Joseph Earl McKiver, estimated the value of the stolen property at $338 and damage at $150.
Vehicle break-ins
Two vehicles were broken into between Tuesday and Wednesday and property was stolen, Goldsboro police reported.
*An XM stereo system was stolen from a sport utility vehicle in the 600 block of North Audubon Avenue. The thief had smashed a window and damaged the dashboard and a case with 10 compact discs. The owner and resident, C.W. Branch, estimated the value of the stereo system at $550 and damage at $920.
*A combination radio and compact disc player was stolen after a car window and door were damaged in the 500 block of Rudolph Street. The owner and resident, Nicholas Edward Harris, put a $200 value on the stolen property and set damage at $200.
