Drivers hurt
Both drivers were injured and damages were estimated at $5,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 8:18 p.m. Monday on N.C. 111, about four-tenths of a mile south of U.S. 70, Goldsboro police said.
Gerald Bond Wilson, 27, of N.C. 111 North, Kenansville, was ejected from his car and then taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital. He treated in the emergency room and released, a spokeswoman said. Police could not determine if he were wearing a seat belt. Kendrick Jeremiah Goff, 17, of Peachtree Drive was listed today in stable condition at the hospital.
Wilson was charged with a safe-movement violation. Goff was charged with not having insurance.
In other accidents:
*A car landed in a tree at 9:22 p.m. Monday at North Harding Drive and Kaydee Street after colliding with another auto, police said. Neither motorist was injured. But Janet Ruth Stevens, 57, of Evergreen Avenue was charged with a stop-sign violation. The report said Ms. Stevens' westbound car collided with a northbound auto driven by Rebecca Ann Tyndal, 44, of Green Drive. The impact sent Ms. Stevens' car flying into the tree.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 10:50 a.m. Monday at East Mulberry and North Daisy streets, police said. One driver, Barry Lee Johnson, 42, of Bryant Street was charged with a safe-movement violation. Johnson's southbound car collided with an eastbound pickup driven by Annette M. Rooney, 55, of Oakland Church Road, the report said. Johnson told police that a construction worker had waved him across the intersection.
Robbed
A Goldsboro man was robbed Monday of $40 as he was walking near North Kornegay and East Mulberry streets, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Leslie Williams, 73, told officers that at about 11:55 a.m. a black teen-ager asked him for money for food. Williams pulled cash from his pocket, and the suspect tried to take the whole amount but got only $40, police said. The robber then bicycled away.
The suspect was described as being about 16 years old and 5-feet-7 with a thin build.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*A bullet hit a power line Monday night in the 1100 block of North Jefferson Avenue, striking a line that fell on a parked car, police said. The car, owned by Louvenie Bryant of Goldsboro, sustained about $1,000 in damage. Damage to the power line was set at $500.
*A white, four-door 1999 Mazda 626 was stolen before dawn today from the 1700 block of Maple Street, police said. The owner, Shonda Harris, said the key had been left in the car. The car was valued at $7,000.
*A red scooter and a red moped were stolen between Sunday and Monday from the 400 block of South George Street. The resident and owner, Willie King, said the vehicles were worth $849.
*About $2,500 worth of oak flooring was stolen between Sunday and Monday from a home under construction in the 400 block of Airlie Place. The flooring had been delivered Wednesday.
*About $200 was stolen Monday after a window was smashed in a home in the 200 block of Cella Street, police said. The resident, Willie Williams, estimated damage at $150.
Thefts
Wayne County Sheriff's Department deputies are investigating these reports:
*Tools with a value of $925 were stolen between Saturday and Monday from a garage in the 100 block of Londonderry Drive, sheriff's deputies said. The resident, Dallas Woodrow Price, reported the theft of three saws, a sander, a drill and two tool belts with tools. Damage was put at $250.
*A stove was stolen between Friday and Monday from a home in the 200 block of John Deere Drive, deputies said. The owner, V.O. Hill, estimated the value of the stove at $900 and damage at $250.
*A diamond ring was stolen between Sunday and Monday from a home in the 1300 block of Memorial Church Road. The resident, Clayton Thomas Williamson, said the ring was worth $1,500.
Crime of
the Week
The robbery of four women as they returned home from shopping, has been selected by Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers as this week's "Crime of the Week."
Three of the women were in their 80s.
The first victim was returning to her apartment on Steele Street in Mount Olive on Wednesday. She was approached by a slender black man, wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt and a toboggan. The robber fled in a dark, older-model vehicle.
Several hours later, the second woman was taking items to her home on Gloucester Road in Goldsboro. A black man followed her inside, grabbed her purse and fled.
Then at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday, the third woman was taking groceries to her apartment on Langston Drive. As she got to the stairwell, a slim black man, dressed in dark clothing, demanded her purse. When she refused, he cut the purse strap, threatened the woman and fled in a dark, older-model car.
The fourth woman was returning at about 12:45 p.m. Friday to her home on South John Street after shopping on Spence Avenue. As she began to unload packages, a dark older-model car drove up, and a black man, dressed in dark clothing, got out and approached her. He cut her purse strap and fled with it.
Anyone with information on these robberies is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous, and they may be eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000, if their information leads to arrests in felony cases.
Duplin murder
trial starts
KENANSVILLE -- Jury selection was to begin at 2 p.m. today in the trial of a Mount Olive woman accused of murdering her boyfriend at their home in Duplin County.
Tammy Sue Wilt was accused of shooting Phil Britt at his home on Garner Chapel Road in January 2003.
Judge Russell Lanier will preside over the trial.
