Plans for new park in Pikeville proceeding

The Pikeville Town Board agreed Monday night to proceed with advertising for bids for construction of the town's new park on Northwest Railroad Street.
Town officials said they hope to start work on the park within about six weeks. The total cost of the project is $194,000, with half of that being paid through a grant the town received.
Board members said the proposed walking trail at the park will be shortened 300 feet in order to make room for access to the park parking lot. The trail will be a mile and quarter long.
In other business, the board reviewed the town's loan to build a new sewer plant. The loan, obtained through the Clean Water Management Trust Fund, will be for $500,000 at 2.2 percent interest over 20 years.
Board members said they will seek volunteer groups to help with the scheduled litter cleanup in April. People who wish to help are urged to call Town Administrator Lonnie Graves.
On Monday, Feb. 21, the board will hold a "Workshop for Town Projections" at the Town Hall. The session, which will be open to the public, will be an attempt to develop a long-range plan for the town by identifying needs and setting priorities.
"I think it will be very helpful," Graves said, "It will get everybody on the same page so we can think about Pikeville's future."
