Navy Seaman Recruit Gregory D. Melvin, the son of Macy C. Brewington of Warsaw and Joseph M. Melvin of Dudley, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, Melvin completed a variety of training, which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed on physical fitness.

Melvin is a 2004 graduate of James Kenan High School of Warsaw.

Marine Corps Staff Sgt. LaDon D. Thompson, the son of Phyllis S. Thompson of Goldsboro and Donnie R. Thompson of Goldsboro, recently reported for duty with the Anti-Terrorism Battalion, 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade at Camp Lejeune.

Thompson is a 1992 graduate of Eastern Wayne High Schoo and joined the Marine Corps in October 1993.

Navy Constructionman Brian D. Reeves, the son of Verlie D. and Robert T. Reeves of Mount Olive, recently embarked on a routine scheduled deployment at sites throughout the world in support of national and theater operations in the Western Pacific while attached to Navy Mobile Construction Battalion 40, the Seabees, homebased in Port Hueneme, Calif. The unit arrived in Okinawa in December and has been operational at several different locations in Japan, including Atsugi, Fuji, Iwakuni and Sasebo, as well as Pohang and Chinhae in South Korea, Diego Garcia and San Clemente Island.

Reeves is a 1999 graduate of Southern Wayne High School.

Marine Corps Master Sgt. James K. O'Quinn recently reported for duty with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station at Beaufort, S. C.

Quinn is a 1981 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.

Army Reserve Pfc. John B. Savage has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. During the eight weeks of training, he studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions, and special training in human relations. Savage is the son of Marilou and the stepson of Antonio Lugo of Daniel Drive, Goldsboro.

He is a 2004 graduate of Eastern Wayne High School.
