Boys and Girls clubs take part in national art competition

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County are among more than 3,000 across the nation that are joining a search for talented young artists.
The competition is part of Boys & Girls Clubs of America's National Fine Arts Exhibit program, a comprehensive initiative promoting young people's creativity and encouraging artistic skills and cultural enrichment.
As a participant in the National Fine Arts Exhibit program, the Boys & Girls Club of Wayne County may submit members' artwork in four age divisions and 10 categories, including watercolor, pastel, oil, acrylic and collage. Selected artwork will be screened at the regional level and a limited number will be sent to the Atlanta headquarters for judging at the national level. Thirty-seven national winners will be named and their artwork displayed at special events throughout the year.
Winning artists will also receive an engraved plaque and letter of congratulations from national club president Roxanne Spillett. Regional finalists will receive a certificate of participation.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County, Main Unit, offers a Fine Arts Program on Tuesdays for members ages 6 to 12 and Wednesdays for teen members ages 13 to 18.
The Boys & Girls Club held a local Fine Arts Exhibit on Jan. 14 at the main unit located at 1401 Royall Avenue. The artwork was displayed for the public.
The artwork was judged by a panel of three judges and the winning artwork has been entered into the Regional Fine Arts Exhibit to be held in March.
