Upcoming dance night envisioned as way of promoting family values

Seeing daddies dance with their little girls is a beautiful sight, says Vanessa Spiron, director of the Family Y's WARM Hearts mentor program.
She said last year's Father-Daughter Dance was an amazing event and that she hopes this year's will be even bigger and better.
On Saturday night from 7 to 9 p.m., the YMCA's gymnasium will be transformed into a ballroom. White tablecloths will adorn tables amidst a sea of red and pink hearts and twinkling lights.
Tickets are $15 per couple and $5 for additional daughters, Mrs. Spiron said, although that doesn't mean the couples have to be related. In some cases, it may be a grandfather, uncle or mentor.
The most important thing about the dance, she said, is that it promotes family values and unity, characteristics the YMCA strives to instill in the community.
"It is open to the public, and all ages are invited," she said. "At 26, my daddy is coming with me, so the ages are limitless."
Although dancing and karaoke will be featured, they will not be the only activities featured. Mrs. Spiron said there will also be plenty of food that has been donated by several area restaurants, door prizes and a "How well do you know your father/daughter?" contest.
A professional photographer will be on hand to capture the event and take pictures of the couples.
