Wayne keeps in touch with Pentagon, Congress

Wayne County leaders maintain ties with the Pentagon and with members of Congress to ensure that they are aware that Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is appreciated in its home community.
Local government and civic leaders meet regularly with base officials to exchange information about their plans and activities and to discuss one another's needs.
The Chamber of Commerce, through its Military Affairs Committee and Seymour Support Council, communicate continually with military officials in Washington and with Langley Air Force Base, home of the Air Combat Command, which is the higher headquarters for Seymour Johnson's 4th Fighter Wing.
Governments, such as the Wayne County Board of Commissioners and Goldsboro City Council, seek to meet the needs of the base though such measures as zoning to prevent encroachment around the base and under its flight paths.
The base is estimated to have an $800 million economic impact on Wayne and surrounding counties, including the wages of military members and civilian employees.
