Arrest made
after holdup
A man with a gun robbed a fast-food restaurant on Berkely Boulevard on Wednesday night of an undetermined amount of money. Police arrested a suspect 25 minutes later.
An assistant manager at the Sonic Drive-In at 404 N. Berkeley Blvd. told police that a man entered the restaurant at about 9:30 a.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money from the employees. The robber grabbed the cash and ran behind the restaurant.
Police got a good description of the suspect, a white man, and searched the area. Officers Bryan Belden and Jay Holland found a man hiding behind a tree in woods, northwest of Berkeley Park, at about 9:55 p.m. The man had a .38 caliber revolver, and he was taken into custody without incident.
Matthew Ryan Mansfield, 17, of Tilghman Drive was charged with armed robbery, under-age possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
2 hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $40,086 in four recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured in a one-car wreck at 3 p.m. Wednesday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, on the North William Street bridge, Goldsboro police said. Charlie Thomas O'Neal, 54, of Cardinal Drive was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. O'Neal's westbound car struck ice, then skidded to the left and struck a guard rail and a road sign, police said. O'Neal was charged with exceeding a safe speed. Damages were estimated at $2,750.
*A driver making a U-turn at U.S. 117 and U.S. 13 collided with a northbound state Highway Patrol trooper's car at 10:46 p.m. Saturday, the Highway Patrol said. Neither driver -- Javier Lamar King, 21, of Olivia Lane or Trooper M.G. Conley, 30, of Goldsboro -- was injured or charged. Damage was estimated at $8,336.23 to Conley's 2003 Ford cruiser and $5,000 to the car that King was driving.
*A driver was injured and both cars were demolished in a collision at 2:45 p.m. Monday at U.S. 70 and Beston Road, the Highway Patrol said. Briana Michelle McGuire, 18, of Trawick Drive, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was charged with a yield violation. Her northbound car collided with an eastbound auto, driven by Anthony Serrato, 33, of New Bern. The cars were valued at $14,000.
*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 10:30 a.m. Monday on Mills Road near Thigpen Dairy Road, the Highway Patrol said. The SUV ran off the right side in a left curve, struck the right ditch and overturned on the road, the report said. The driver, Penny M. Wiggs, 41, of Mills Loop Road, Mount Olive, was charged with speeding. The SUV was valued at 10,000.

Sloan
A 21-year-old man is wanted by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on felony charges of breaking and entering and larceny.
Montrell Anthony Sloan, whose last-known address was on Wynn Street in Mount Olive, was described as black with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on Sloan's location was asked to call Sheriff's Detective Sgt. Rick Farfour at 731-1497 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Two weed trimmers, a tool box with tools, a push mower and a chain saw were stolen Wednesday after a shed door was pried open in the 1200 block of Poplar Street, police said. The resident, James Durham, put an $875 value on his property.
*About $155 was stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a bank bag in a drawer at Carr and Co. Real Estate at 102-C S. Spence Ave., police said. The thief had inflicted an estimated $300 in damages to a door to get inside.
*A man left the key in the ignition of his unlocked pickup truck Tuesday night and returned Wednesday night to find that it had been stolen, police said. The owner and resident, Clifton Bryan Wiggins of East Ash Street, said his burgundy 1993 Chevrolet S-10 was valued at $2,000.
