Silver gets honorary degree

Dr. George Silver of Goldsboro was awarded an honorary doctorate by North Greenville College in Tigerville, S.C.
The presentation was made during December commencement exercises at the college.
Silver was president of North Greenville College from 1975 until 1980.
According to a press release from the school, Silver revised the academic program during his five-year tenure. He also developed new extension centers offering credit courses and continuing education programs.
In addition to North Greenville College, Silver served as president of Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, Md., and Ocean County College in Toms River, N.J. He also served as Executive Associate in the Office of Assistant Chancellor, Fiscal Affairs, State of New Jersey, Department of Higher Education, and later the director of finance and administration for the State of New Jersey with the New Jersey Commission on Capital Budgeting and Planning.
Silver received a bachelor of science degree in education from Northwest Missouri State University in 1949, his master of education from Rutgers University in 1952, and his doctor of education from Temple University in 1964.
Upon acceptance of the honorary doctorate, Silver said, "Today is the day. This is the event. This is what it's all about." He also thanked the faculty, saying, "If it weren't for you, this day would not be possible." Then he added, "I am honored to have had a small part in being associated with this great college."
