SEVEN SPRINGS - Allen Cash was appointed Wednesday by the Seven Springs Town Board to fill the unexpired term of Emma Ward.
Cash, 29, will serve three years. His appointment was unanimous.
"I noticed nobody my age on the board," Cash said, explaining why he decided to seek the post. He said that he believes he can help the town. Board members agreed that they need the input of younger residents. Mayor Emma Ward said young people bring new ideas and energy.
Cash has not held political office before. He works for a Raleigh electrical company. The board also considered former board member Steve Potter for the position.
Board member Danny Carter made the motion to appoint Cash. It was seconded by board member Peggy Jones.
Mayor Ward said she does not plan to run for mayor in the next election but that she would consider running for a seat on the board at a later date.
