Contracts awarded for hangar construction

Pilots who have been waiting for hangar space at the Goldsboro-Wayne Airport should be able to move in later this year.
The airport authority voted Tuesday night to award three construction contracts, including a new 12-bay hangar that would serve single-engine and light twin-engine aircraft.
The airport currently has 13 people on a waiting list for hangar space, so the new building should be rented out almost immediately, said Otto Keesling, the authority's chairman.
The hangar would also have 450-500 square feet in additional space at each end, which could be used as office or storage space.
Best Sand & Gravel Inc. won the contract for grading the hangar's building pad and building its taxiway. The company's $149,095 bid was the lowest of six companies seeking the contract.
The authority chose Johnson-Russell Construction for a $284,663 contract to build the hangar. It was the low bidder among three companies.
Best Sand & Gravel Inc. was also lowest among six companies for a contract to build a parking apron, 175 feet by 150 feet, and improve a taxiway outside Wayne Community College's building. The work was bid at $153,450.
The authority will receive state reimbursement for 90 percent of the cost of the grading and paving contracts.
The authority will repay a loan for the hangar's construction through rental payments on the bays. Ken Banks, the group's treasurer, will consult with financial agencies and present financing options at the airport authority's Jan. 27 meeting.
