Davis named Braswell scholar

MOUNT OLIVE -- Brandon Davis of Wilson has been named the 2004 Braswell Teaching Scholarship recipient.
Davis is a graduate of Beddingfield High School and is the son of Jimmie and Debra Davis.
The Braswell Teaching Scholarship is funded by the Jessie Dail Braswell and Walter Vernon Braswell Scholarship Endowment. This award is given in honor of Mrs. Braswell's 34-year teaching career in the public schools of Princeton and the Braswell family's life-long commitment to education.
Davis, as a scholarship recipient, passed the selection criteria including having a 3.2 high school grade point average, being in the top 25 percent of his class, and having a minimum 1020 SAT.
While in college Davis must complete at least 30 semester hours per academic year; maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average as a freshman; and be an active member of the Prospective Teachers Association.
"I heard about Mount Olive College through the people of my church and the small and personal environment ultimately led to my decision," said Davis.
He has already taken a world civilizations course which goes towards his intended major of history education with a minor in political science. Davis plans to continue with some classes designed for prospective teachers, including a professional studies course next semester.
Davis plan is to teach history at the high school level after undergraduate and graduate school.
"I believe that teachers are the backbone of our nation." he said.
Davis expressed his thanks to his family, friends, and church for their support. He attends Daniel's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Black Creek. He will graduate in 2008.
