Second man held
in assault, robbery
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office has arrested a second man in the felonious assault and armed robbery last month of a 61-year-old Dudley man.
Jonathan Lee Reeves, 23, of Mobile Circle, Dudley, was charged Friday with assault with a deadly weapon and armed robbery. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,200 secured bond.
Reeves and Ricky Allen Ballance Jr., 20, of Paradise Lane, Dudley, were accused of assaulting John Edsel Rhodes of Mobile Circle after he refused to buy their drugs, detectives said. After the Dec. 30 assault, Rhodes reported that his car keys had been stolen, Detective Sgt. Mike Kabler said.
Rhodes needed medical treatment for his injuries, the report said.
Detective Sgt. Carl Lan-caster assisted in the case.
Man robbed
A Goldsboro man was robbed early Saturday by four people of about $200 as he sat in his truck in his yard in the 700 block of South Madison Avenue, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Ronald Ray Jones, 39, told officers that one suspect displayed a silver handgun at about 1:30 a.m. and demanded, "Give me what you got." Jones yielded the cash, and the suspects fled south on Best Street, the report said.
The suspects were described only as being three black men and a black woman, and all wore dark clothing. The gunman was described as 5-feet-10 and 170 pounds with a medium build and brown hair.
Brick assault
A man was struck with a brick Friday night in the 300 block of North James Street, and police later arrested and charged a woman for the assault.
Roderick Keith Miller, 27, of East Pine Street reported that he and the woman were arguing and then she hit him with a brick. He was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokesman said.
About 40 minutes later, Roberta Lynn Leonti, 36, of North James Street was arrested and charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $500 secured bond.
Three hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $10,715 in three recent traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*A teen-ager on a motorbike was struck by a car at 1:02 p.m. Saturday at North Drive and Banks Avenue, Goldsboro police said. Trey Deandre Langston, 14, of North Drive was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokesman said. He was going north on North Drive. The driver, Krystle Michelle Anderson, 18, of Fairview Circle, was not charged. Damages were put at $3,300.
*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 2:39 p.m. Friday at Cashwell Drive and North Berkeley Boule-vard, police said. An eastbound driver, Mary H. Cobbs, 51, of County Road, Mount Olive, and her passenger, Angela Underwood, 37, of Edgerton Street, were released after emergency-room treatment, a hospital spokesman said. The other driver, Patrick Shane Johnson, 22, of North Spence Avenue, was charged with a safe-movement violation after the rear-end collision. Damages were set at $415.
*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-truck crash at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday at U.S. 117 and Hooks River Road, police said. One driver, Jose Santiago Lopez, 40, of Hooks River Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The other motorist was identified as Carlyle Brewington, 76, of Scotty Drive.
Investigations
Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:
*A Yamaha four-wheeler was stolen between Thursday and Friday from a garage and two small Yamaha dirt bikes were stolen from a yard in the 2300 block of North William Street, Goldsboro police said. The resident, Dino Ray Edwards, said his vehicles were worth $6,200.
*An unknown amount of money was stolen between Thursday and Friday after a drink machine was broken into at 1308 W. Grantham St., police said. Damage was set at $300 to the machine.
*Thieves tried to steal an all-terrain vehicle between Thursday and Friday after breaking a lock on a storage building in the 2600 block of Big Daddy's Road, sheriff's deputies said. A neighbor heard the late-night attempt and approached the suspects who then fled in an older pickup, the report said. The suspects could not be described. The ATV, owned by the resident, Ricky Edwin Bass, was valued at $3,200. Damage was set at $20.
