Flu vaccines available Tuesday for high-risk groups

Wayne County Health Department will hold another flu shot clinic on Tuesday, with 800 vaccines available for high-risk groups.

Appointments are not necessary for the clinic, which will be held from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Health Director James Roosen asks that no one arrive before 7 a.m. All parking spaces surrounding the county office building will be reserved for the flu-shot clinic.

The criteria for high risk recently expanded to include adults 50 years of age and older as well as those who have contact with those in high-risk groups. It also includes the following:

*All children of ages 6 months to 23 months.

*People of ages 2 to 64 years with underlying chronic medical conditions.

*All women who will be pregnant during the influenza season.

*Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities.

*Children of ages 6 months to 18 years on chronic aspirin therapy.

*Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts of children of age 6 months or younger.

Individuals are required to bring proof of ID and will be asked to sign a form verifying they are at high risk. Individuals should also bring a copy of their health coverage card with them. There is no charge for the flu vaccine.
