The Wayne County commissioners will begin 2005 with a series of all-day work sessions, starting this week.

The county board has set four days to meet -- this Friday; Tuesday, Jan. 11; Tuesday, Jan. 25; and Tuesday, Feb. 1.

These work sessions, to be held at the Hampton Inn and Goldsboro Country Club, will allow the commissioners to set goals for the next 12 to 18 months. The discussions will lead into the county's 2005-2006 budget.

These meetings are in addition to the board's regular meetings, set for this Tuesday and Tuesday, Jan. 18.

All the commissioners are also invited to the Wayne County Economic Development Commission's annual retreat, which will be held Feb. 4-5 in Atlantic Beach.

Several also plan to attend the N.C. Association of County Commissioners' legislative goals conference, which will be next week in High Point.

The commissioners have a light agenda for their meeting Tuesday.

They are scheduled to talk about the county's property and liability insurance. Crawford-Henderson Inc. insurance company has asked for a 3 percent increase in the premium. County Finance Director Norman Ricks said the county has added vehicles, replaced equipment at the landfill and increased the value of the Borden Building in the last year, so an increase is expected and reasonable, Ricks told commissioners last month.

The county board could also decide on Denize Odeh's rezoning request for property at the intersection of Collier Street and U.S. 117 North.

The commissioners will convene at 8 a.m. Tuesday for a briefing on the agenda. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the commissioners' meeting room, fourth floor, Wayne County Courthouse Annex, 224 E. Walnut St.
