Chase ends with driver hitting trooper's car

A 28-year-old Fayetteville man wanted by authorities in Cumberland, Duplin and Wilkes counties on numerous charges was arrested Sunday in Wayne County after a chase through two counties at speeds of more than 100 mph.
Michael Albert Morris was arrested by Wayne County sheriff's officers and state Highway Patrol troopers at Massey and Herring roads near Dudley, but not until he had struck a trooper's car.
The Mustang that Morris was driving was damaged, but Trooper J.F. Davis' patrol car was not damaged.
Morris was accused of assaulting a woman with a bar stool in a Fayetteville night club, kidnapping her, robbing $1,900 from the business and stealing a car. He also was accused of stealing vehicles in Wilkes and Duplin counties.
The Mustang that he was driving had been stolen, officers said.
Morris was charged with one felony count of armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting a serious injury, first-degree kidnapping, breaking and entering, larceny, possession of burglary tools and fleeing to elude arrest; four felony counts of vehicle larceny and possession of stolen goods; two misdemeanor counts of property damage, reckless driving, driving while his license was revoked and resisting arrest, and one misdemeanor count of speeding to elude arrest and larceny.
Morris was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of secured bonds totaling $127,300.
