Goldsboro clerk retires, Daw to take her place

Sandra Justice received a standing ovation Monday night from the Goldsboro City Council for all her years of service.
Mrs. Justice retires as city clerk at the end of December after working for the city for almost 20 years.
Michelle Daw, who formerly worked in the Parks and Recreation Department, will be the new city clerk.
One by one, council members thanked her for her hard work and dedication to the city.
"We'll miss you," said Councilman Bob Waller, and Mayor Al King added, "That's putting it mildly."
Councilman Chuck Allen said that Mrs. Justice had taken him under her wing and looked out for him. "If I ever missed a meeting, it wasn't because Sandra didn't tell me."
Allen said that telling Mrs. Justice that she had done the job well just wasn't enough. "I need to use words like magnificent, or extraordinaire, words I can't say."
Councilman Don Chatman, former planning director for the city, said he remembered when she was hired to work in the Planning Department.
"You were always a team player," he said. "I wish you well."
Councilman Jackie Warrick thanked her for her professionalism in handling the job, and Councilman Jimmy Bryan said she was a "hard-working lady" and he wished her the best.
Mrs. Justice, a South Carolina native, began working for the city in 1985 in the Planning Department. She moved to the Finance Department in 1991 and was promoted to city clerk in 1998.
She received certification for the city clerk position at the Institute of Government.
