Wayne Community College has named its employees of the year.
Carlos Cotto, a program director in the Continuing Education Division, received the annual award in the professional staff category. He has worked for the college full-time for five years.
Cotto's nominator lauded the "broad and significant contributions he has made to Wayne Community College," as well as his involvement in the community.
Shroeder "Inky" Bowden, the college's mail clerk, earned the support staff award. Her nominators said she was enthusiastic and dedicated, and one said that "no matter what the weather, she brings sunshine to each office she enters." She has been a college employee for 16 years.
The operations and maintenance staff member of the year is Mary Linda Beauman who has been with the housekeeping staff for nearly four years. According to a nominator, Mrs. Beauman has been an "ambassador" for the college and volunteers in its literacy program during her free time.
Honorees nominated by their peers and are selected by an outside committee. They receive a plaque and cash award.
"We are pleased to be able to recognize outstanding employees each year. I wish we could give more than one award in each category," said college President Edward H. Wilson Jr. "Mr. Cotto, Ms. Bowden and Mrs. Beauman are exemplary in their areas."
