Homeless man
steals pork chops
A homeless man was charged with shoplifting at the Piggly Wiggly on Lionel Street after he hid a pack of pork chops in his clothes, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Devon Darden, 54, was charged with shoplifting, second-degree trespassing and carrying a concealed weapon. Darden, who listed his address as the "streets of Goldsboro," was placed in the Wayne County Jail under a $1,000 bond.
Light 'Grinch'
Willie Williams, 63, of Wisteria Lane returned home Friday to find that his outside Christmas lights were no longer working. Someone had cut the power cable from the lights, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Audi hits tire company
A driver crashed his new Audi into Benton Tire Co. early Saturday morning.
Suman Koka, 24, of Sudbury was charged with and careless and reckless driving after losing control of his car.
According to the police report, Koka was driving a 2004 Audi near the intersection of Ash and Center streets when his car hit a curb. The car then traveled through the grassy median, went across the road west of the traffic circle and ran off the right side of the road.
The report said the vehicle struck a metal sign in the parking lot of Circle Tire and Gas and hit a tree beside the sidewalk. The car then slid sideways, the report said, and hit a pole.
The car slid into Benton Tire Co. and rolled over, landing upright on the sidewalk.
Damages included $15,000 to the tire company building and $500 for the city's trees. Damages to Koka's Audi were listed at $40,000. There were no injuries.
Police car wrecks
A Goldsboro police officer was charged with driving left of center after his patrol car collided with another car Friday evening, according to the police report.
Officer Jeremy Walter Piner, 29, of Lockhaven Drive was responding to a call and had his siren on. He entered the southbound lane of Berkeley Boulevard and was attempting to go through the intersection at Central Heights Road when he hit a 2002 Chevrolet driven by Annese Clay Sasser, the report said.
Ms. Sasser, 46, of Harris Street was turning south on Berkeley Boulevard from Central Heights Road. Several passengers in her car were taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
There was an estimated $4,000 worth of damages done to the police car, and about $7,500 to Mrs. Sasser's car, the report said.
In other reports, a 20-year-old woman lost control of her car Friday night. Meagan Allyse Brewer of Wright Brothers Avenue was driving a 1998 Honda on U.S. Highway 70 East near the Ash Street exit ramp when she lost control of the car. Ms. Brewer was charged with failing to carry her license. Her passenger, Allen Matthew, 24, was charged with failure to wear a seat belt. There was approximately $7,000 worth of damages done to the Honda.
