King breakfast, other festivities, set for January

Goldsboro will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday in January with a special play and the annual breakfast.
The holiday celebration will start with the Kuumba Ensemble's "The Rumble in My Voice Production" at the Paramount Theater on Sunday, Jan. 16, at 2 p.m.
On Monday, Jan. 17, the annual breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. at the H.V. Brown Hall at 801 Poplar St. There is a $10 cost for each event.
Kuumba Ensemble is part of the African American Theatrical Company of Baltimore, Md.
The original musical and dramatic production pays tribute to 12 black women -- from Rosa Parks to Shirley Chisholm -- who served the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
The third Monday in January of each year has been set aside by the state, federal and some local governments as a legal holiday to honor the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The breakfast tickets will go on sale Dec. 20. Performing at the breakfast will be Wayne County middle school students and the Cultural Movement Dancers.

The Martin Luther King Holiday Committee and the Wayne County Museum are soliciting artifacts for a museum display in January and February on Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement.
