Hospital plans $1 million revamp

A $1 million renovation project was introduced to the board of directors at Wayne Memorial Hospital this morning to move various administrative offices.
"There are a number of reasons for these kinds of things taking place," said Ken Gerrard of the building and grounds committee. The main one is "to make a better fit."
"There will be a great deal of impact on hospital folks to better serve the community ... and offer better services for the community."
The first part of the plan is to move the personnel department to the front of the hospital. "Human Resources will have better access for potential employees coming in for applications," he said.
The staff will move into the current administrative offices, to the left of the reception area at the hospital's front entrance. Pastoral care will also be moved inside from its present location in a trailer on the hospital property.
Senior administrative personnel will move into offices to the right of the lobby, which now serves as the business offices. That department will move to the southeast addition that is nearing completion.
The southeast addition will also become home to the hospital pharmacy, clinical engineering department, and a new classroom and auditorium.
Gerrard said the proposal was revamped several times before being brought to the board. Costs for the project were cut in half from the original plan, he said.
The proposal will now be considered by the board's finance committee, with hopes that the work will begin in March.
The project will be bid in its entirety, Gerrard said. The price tag will cover construction costs, architectural and engineering design fees, furniture and equipment.
