Man wounded
A 28-year-old Goldsboro man was wounded several times Sunday night outside of a home in the 300 block of North James Street, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Kenneth B. Dixon, 28, of Isler Street was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was listed today in stable condition in the intensive care unit.
Dixon could not describe the assailant but did give police a possible first name. Investigator Chad Calloway was assigned to the case.
Wrong place
A man with a license plate on the wrong car stopped in the wrong driveway Friday.
The man pulled into the drive at the home of Wayne County Sheriff's Deputy Chuck Schaeffer. Schaeffer asked the man what he was doing, and the driver said he was waiting for someone.
At that point, Schaeffer asked for the man's driver license, and he admitted that he did not have one. Then the deputy radioed dispatchers to determine the owner of the car.
The man drove off. Schaeffer took off after him and stopped him on Old Grantham Road.
The driver, identified by Johnston County authorities as Juan Ramirez-Hinojoso of Smithfield, was charged with not having an operator's license and false information.
Six-vehicle crash
Six vehicles were involved in two collisions at 1:45 p.m. Sunday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Mall Road, Goldsboro police said. One driver was injured.
Venella B. Johnson, 66, of Randall Lane was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Police said a sport utility vehicle, driven by Aroceli Sanchez Araujo, 47, of Buddy Lane, Dudley, was crossing the northbound lanes and collided with Ms. Johnson's northbound car. Damages were set at $6,000. Araujo was charged with a safe-movement violation.
Seconds after the first collision, four cars collided in a chain-reaction, rear-end crash as the drivers tried to avoid the first wreck. Two drivers -- Joseph Paul Cook, 22, of Parker Road, Mount Olive, and Rosario Jimenez Perry, 52, of Berry Street -- were charged with failure to reduce speed.
The other motorists were identified as Octavia Ramona Best, 17, of Ryan Way and April A. Mook, 36, of Bolling Drive. Damages were put at $11,000.
In other collisions:
*A passenger from Goldsboro was injured in a two-vehicle collision at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at North William and East Ash streets, police said. Ida Kornegay, 65, of Adams Street was released after emergency-room treatment. She was riding with John Earl Kornegay, 67, of Adams Street. The other driver, Rose S. Simpson, 50, of Wayne Memorial Drive, was charged with a stoplight violation. Damages were estimated at $8,000.
*A passenger from Kinston was injured and damages were set at $10,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 10:44 a.m. Saturday at North William Street and Stronach Avenue, police said. Melody Baysden, 48, was released after emergency-room treatment. She was riding with John Wesley Baysden, 50, of Kinston. The other motorist, George Eugene King, 77, of East Mulberry Street, was charged with a stoplight violation.
Dryer fire
A faulty clothes dryer was blamed Saturday for a fire that caused an estimated $400 in damages at a home at 2640 N.C. 111 South.
Eight Indian Springs volunteers responded to the 9:58 a.m. call with four trucks. They needed about an hour to put out the fire, ventilate the home and finish salvage work. Elroy firefighters offered mutual aid.
The home, owned by Edna Bunn, was valued at $50,000 and contents were valued at $20,000.
Investigations
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A laptop computer, two speakers and a 13-inch television were stolen between Friday and Saturday from a truck cab at the Kangaroo service station at 2035 U.S. 70 West, sheriff's deputies said. A thief had smashed a window to get inside. The driver for Hallmart Trucking Inc. of Wilson -- Darryl Devon Lewis of Goldsboro -- estimated the value of his stolen property at $2,100 and damage at $150.
*Four rings and a necklace were stolen between Saturday and Sunday from a home in the 100 block of Britt Street near Pikeville, deputies said. The resident, Kelly Starr Langston, put a $2,900 value on the jewelry. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*A compact disc player was stolen Sunday, five windows and two mirrors were shattered and the side of a car was scratched at U.S. 70 West and Westbrook Road, deputies said. The owner, Shambra Renee Hickman of Goldsboro, put a $100 value on her property and estimated damage at $1,100.
*Two buses at Southern Wayne High School were painted with obscenities Saturday, deputies said. Damage was put at $800.
Thefts
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*Stereos were stolen from two cars between Saturday and Sunday at Lee Motors Inc. at 113 S. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The thief had broken windows, an electric rear-view mirror and a console. The stereos were valued at $600. Damage was set at $850.
*A locked box with $80 and checks were stolen between Friday and Sunday after a cabinet door was damaged at Precision Plumbing at 205 Fedelon Trail, police said. The box was recovered in a dumpster behind a nearby day care.
Drug charges
A 35-year-old Goldsboro man was among five people arrested Saturday by Goldsboro police and charged with drug offenses.
*Anthony Bernard Mickens of Brazil Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana on Maple Street. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond.
*Damorris Vendell Jones, 22, of Southwest Circle, Dudley, was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana, harassing phone calls and communicating threats. His bond was set at $1,000.
*Corey Lee Smith, 24, of Central Heights Road; Robert Mack, 18, of Devereaux Street, and Deion Grant, 21, of South Slocumb Street were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Each was released on a written promise.
Missing
A 13-year-old boy has been reported missing by relatives to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. Jermaine Octavious Ethridge of 113 Biltmore Drive was described as black, 5-feet-3 and 105 pounds with black hair and dark eyes.
When he was seen last at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday, he was wearing a black T-shirt over a white T-shirt, black jeans and black boots. Anyone with information on his location was asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 731-1481.
