Students qualify in regional competition

Health occupations students from two Wayne County high schools have qualified in a regional competition.
The regional Health Occupations Students of America competition was held at West Brunswick High School. The Charles B. Aycock High School chapter took 15 students and Spring Creek High School participated with eight students.
The next level of competition, for state awards, will take place in Greensboro in the spring.
Aycock winners included Chris Steed and Nida Waheed, top 10 finishers in the medical terminology category. Anem Waheed was first place winner in medical math.
Thomas Williamson was first place winner in extemporaneous writing. Alyssa Grey placed second in researched persuasive speaking.
Heather Edwards was third place winner in extemporaneous health poster.
In sports medicine, Danielle Street and Jennifer Johnson were named among the top 10.
Phillip Quinn, Alex Newsome and Lauren Dickens were fifth place winners in creative problem solving.
Spring Creek students who won included Jami Crampton and Leslie Beldon, top 10 in the health career display, and Krystina Walker, top 10 for prepared speaking.
Roland Rengifo received fifth place for job seeking skills and will compete at the state level in April.
