Burglar steals woman's purse
An elderly woman heard a knock on her door Wednesday night, and when she answered it, a man barged into her home, stole her pocketbook and fled, according to a Goldsboro police report.
The resident, Hazel Watkins, said she opened the door to her home in the 1500 block of Laurel Street at about 6:55 p.m. The stolen property was valued at $45, in addition to the money.
The burglar was described as being black and 6-feet tall, and he wore a white T-shirt around his face.
Police also are investigating these reports:
*About $3,500, two boxes with 36 figurines each, a box of hand-carved figurines, a Christmas ornament, a video camera, a DVD player and other property were stolen between April 28 and Wednesday from a home in the 200 block of South Spence Avenue, police said. The resident, I. Friedel, estimated the value of the stolen property at more than $2,880, in addition to the cash. No sign of forced entry was reported.
*Two 12-packs of beer were stolen before dawn today after a door glass was smashed at the Spur Service Center at 301 W. Grantham St., police said. The beer was valued at $32. Damage was put at $350.
Gun theft
A 48-year-old man from Mount Olive was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with two counts of felony larceny.
Michael Carroll Davis of North Chestnut Street was accused of stealing firearms from a home in Grantham and power tools from a home in Mount Olive, Detective Sgt. Ray Brogden said.
Davis was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond. Detective Sgt. Carl Lancaster and Mount Olive Police Maj. Ralph Schroeder assisted in the arrest.
Fraud
A 20-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office and charged with felony forgery.
Randy N. Green of West Hill Street was released from custody by Magistrate R. Allen Jones on a written promise to appear in court today for a first appearance.
