SEVEN SPRINGS -- Peggy Jones is the new mayor pro tem of Seven Springs. The town board also decided to interview three candidates for the vacant town commissioner seat.

The town has been missing a town commissioner since August when Emma Ward, then mayor pro tem, stepped in to cover for Mayor Jewel Kilpatrick when she resigned.

"I think you'd make a wonderful pro tem," said Town Commissioner Danny Carter to Mrs. Jones. But Mrs. Jones said she didn't want the position.

Rodolph Adams moved to appoint Mrs. Jones whether she wanted it or not. Ms. Jones voted against her self. The motion carried.

Town officials have spoken with three people about taking the board seat. Two of them, former Town Commissioner Steve Potter and newcomer Allen Cash, have called Town Hall. Former Town Commissioner Ivey Outlaw has been approached about taking the seat. Outlaw had decided in 2003 not to seek re-election because of schedule conflicts at work.
