Armed robbery
An armed masked man robbed a Hispanic convenience store Sunday night of about $250, according to a Wayne County Sheriff's Office report.
A clerk at the El Tianguis store at 1484 N.C. 111 South told sheriff's deputies that the robber entered the store at about 6:25 p.m., brandished a machine gun and said, "Give me the money."
The clerk handed over money from the cash drawer, the report said, and the robber fled toward Spring Bank Road. He was described as being about 20 years old, 5-feet-7 and 150 pounds with a small build. He wore a white shirt and brown pants.
Meanwhile, a clerk at the Spur gas station at 301 W. Grantham St. foiled a holdup Saturday night by refusing to give a man any money, Goldsboro police said. The suspect kept his hand in his pocket and demanded money, the report said. Then the clerk activated an alarm, and the suspect fled.
Teen wounded
A teen-ager walking in the 1100 block of Devereaux Street was shot Sunday in the left hip, according to a Goldsboro police report.
Derek J. Dixon, 16, of Skitt Drive was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated in the emergency-room and released, a spokeswoman said.
Dixon told police that he was walking at about 9:20 a.m. with a friend and heard two or three gunshots. He walked to a friend's house and called police. The shooter was not described.
Kitchen fire
A mechanical malfunction in the hood above the stove was blamed Saturday for a kitchen fire that caused an estimated $4,200 in damages to a home at 316 E. Holly St., a Goldsboro fire official said.
Assistant Fire Chief Ray Boyette said the cabinets above the stove were burned. Damage was estimated at $4,000 to the home and $200 to contents.
The occupant, Amye Ross, was not home, but a friend used a garden hose on the fire until firefighters arrived, Boyette said.
Thirteen firefighters answered the 12:59 p.m. call with three engines, a ladder truck and a command car. They controlled the fire in a few minutes but remained for an hour to investigate the cause, ventilate the home and finish salvage work.
The one-floor home, owned by Mike Sherman, was valued at $60,000.
Drug charges
Five men have been arrested by Goldsboro police and charged with felony drug offenses.
*Linwood Earl Davis Sr., 55, of Glenhaven Lane was charged Sunday with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine and sale and delivery of cocaine as a result of a recent two-month undercover drug roundup.
When arrested by Officers R. Yeager and K. Perry during a traffic stop, he also was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Davis was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond.
*Three men were charged before dawn today during a traffic stop with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. Ryan Keith Everett, 18, of Hull Road, LaGrange, also was charged with maintaining a vehicle for the purpose of keeping and selling marijuana and three misdemeanors, carrying a concealed weapon, under-age possession of alcohol and possession of drug paraphernalia. Everett was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 secured bond.
Eric Scott Carter, 17, of Kinston was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. His secured bond was set at $5,000. Domonio Monté Waters, 19, of Haynes Drive, LaGrange, also was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to carry an operator's license. He was jailed in lieu of a $5,000 secured bond.
*Jerome Demond Wright, 21, of Evergreen Street was charged Sunday with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of a stolen firearm. He was jailed in lieu of a $6,000 secured bond.
During the same arrest, two other men, Isaiah Lee Uzzell, 23, and Marcus Lamont Barbour, 22, both of Evergreen Avenue, also were charged with possession of a stolen firearm. Uzzell, who also was charged with resisting arrest and an outstanding traffic violation, was jailed lieu of a $6,000 secured bond. Barbour's secured bond was set at $5,000.
Six hurt in wrecks
Six people were injured in seven recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers reported.
*A pedestrian was struck at 12:54 p.m. Sunday by a hit-and-run car at East Ash and North Slocumb streets, Goldsboro police said. Mark Eugene Baker, 40, of East Elm Street was taken by ambulance to Wayne Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, a spokeswoman said. The car and driver were not described.
*Two people were injured in a two-car collision at 1:18 p.m. Friday on East Elm Street near South Slocumb Street, police said. One driver, Kenneth DeKeyser Jr., 37, of West Chestnut Street, and his passenger, Mitchell Leodus Bright, 53, of South Slocumb Street, were released after emergency-room treatment. The other driver, Christine T. Spears, 40, of National Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $2,000.
*A driver from Goldsboro was injured and damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car crash at 6:10 p.m. Friday on North Berkeley Boulevard near Ridgecrest Drive, police said. Megan Christine Crager, 22, of East Lockhaven Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. The other motorist, David Scott McDonough, 18, of Braswell Road, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end crash.
*A pedestrian was injured at 2:15 p.m. Friday in a collision with a car in the Wayne Community College parking lot, a police report said. Jamal Demetrius Troublefield, 18, of Young Drive, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver, Dominic Lamont Parks, 18, of Edgerton Street, was not charged. Damage to the car was set at $200.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 2:52 p.m. Friday at North Spence Avenue and Mall Road, police said. A northbound driver, Edin Orlando Balderon-Cruz, 24, of Raleigh, was charged with a stoplight violation. The westbound motorist was identified as Yvonne J. Pridgen, 55, of N.C. 903 South, Snow Hill.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-truck collision at 2:46 p.m. Friday on West Grantham Street near the entrance to Little River Shopping Center, police said. One motorist, Michael Anthony Thorn III, 19, of Valleywood Drive, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. The other driver was identified as Danny Alexander Williams, 55, of Bayboro.
*A Wayne County school bus collided with a car at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday as the bus left the parking lot on Royall Avenue, the Highway Patrol said. The bus driver, Nigrilya Moneshe Harvey, 26, of Edgerton Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The driver of the car, Gracie I. Ragland, 53, of Sydney Drive, Dudley, was injured in the crash. She was released after emergency-room treatment. Damages were put at $2,000 to the car and $200 to the bus.
Break-ins
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*A personal computer, 40 music compact discs, antique earrings, costume jewelry, a television and food were stolen Saturday from a home in the 500 block of Outlaw Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, E.D. Hargrave, estimated the value of the stolen property at $2,275 and damage at $100.
*About 84 compact discs, a CD player, a DVD player, clothing and paperwork were stolen between Saturday and Sunday after a window was broken in a home in the 100 block of Gary Lane, deputies said. The resident, Jose Oscar Lopez, estimated the property's value at $1,715 and damage at $30.
*Eleven rental storage lockers were broken into between Saturday and Sunday at 2236 N.C. 581 North, deputies said. A box of Captain Marvel action figures, summer clothes and pots and pans were stolen from one locker. The renter, Teresa G. Anstey of Fremont, put a $525 value on her property. No other property was listed as being stolen from the other units. Damage to the locker doors and a wall was set at $5,200.
*A drill, a saw and a work light were stolen between Wednesday and Friday after a door was damaged at a home in the 800 block of Mitchell Road, deputies said. The resident, David Bryan Barfield, estimated the value of the stolen property at $210.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*About $130, a pair of boots and a watch were stolen Sunday after a door glass was smashed at a home in the 100 block of Quail Drive, police said. One resident, Quincy Edwards, put a $190 value on the boots and watch. No damage estimate was listed.
*A DVD player was stolen Sunday after a door was damaged at a home in the 900 block of North Madison Avenue, police said. The resident, Thomas F. Whitmire, put a $100 value on the player and set damage at $150.
