Woman's death
being investigated
The death of a 26-year-old mother of five remains under investigation today by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
The body of Misty Ann Holmes was found Wednesday night in her home at 401 Little Dove Lane, Pikeville.
The body was sent to the state Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Sheriff's Capt. George Raecher said he did not believe that foul play contributed to the death.
A man working for the woman's landlord told deputies that he had gone to the home to collect the rent and had heard a 4-month-old baby boy crying inside. He entered the home with a spare key and found the victim on the floor and the baby on a couch. He called for help.
Sheriff's Sgt. Sherwood Daly was the first officer to arrive, and rescue personnel and sheriff's detectives were summoned.
Ms. Holmes' four other children were staying with the victim's sister. The baby also was turned over to a sister.
Drug charges
A 28-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday by the Goldsboro-Wayne County Drug Squad and charged with four felony drug offenses in a home in the 200 block of North Carolina Street.
Karemond Abdullah Spells of North Alabama Avenue was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell and deliver Ecstacy and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of keeping and selling drugs.
He also was held on two outstanding arrest orders, including one for failure to pay child support.
Spells was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $20,984.70 secured bond.
Traffic stop discoveries
Two people were arrested before dawn today by the Wayne County Sheriff's Office during a traffic stop on U.S. 117 South and charged with felony offenses.
*Joy Robin Davis, 25, of Clark Drive, Dudley, was charged with possession of cocaine. She was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
*William Paul Bryan, 29, of Providence Church Road was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and misdemeanor possession of a concealed weapon. He was jailed in lieu of a $2,500 secured bond.
Marijuana charge
A 26-year-old man from Goldsboro was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug offense and numerous misdemeanor violations.
Alton Leevon Fields Jr. of North Leslie Street was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He also was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a female, larceny, communicating threats and injury to personal property.
He also was held on a probation violation and an outstanding arrest order from the Wayne County Sheriff's Office.
Fields was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of secured bonds totaling $14,500.
Sex charge
A 31-year-old Goldsboro man was arrested Wednesday by Goldsboro police and charged with the felony first-degree rape of a child.
David Earl Robinson of Third Street was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $100,000 secured bond.
Two hurt in wrecks
Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $17,800 in three recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers said
*A driver was injured in a two-car collision at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday on an exit ramp from Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway to West Ash Street, Goldsboro police said. Ouida Lynn Heath, 31, of Kinston was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. The other motorist, Lauren Elizabeth Mitchell, 20, of New Hope Road, LaGrange, was charged with failure to reduce speed after the rear-end collision. Damages were put at $2,300.
*Damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle crash at 8:48 a.m. Wednesday on East Ash Street near North Claiborne Avenue, police said. One driver, Jamie Jeremiah Baxter, 22, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was charged with a safe-movement violation and an expired registration. Police said Baxter had left a parking lot and his sport utility vehicle collided with an eastbound pickup truck driven by Charlotte Ann Reece, 46, of Old Grantham Road.
*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-vehicle wreck at 10:29 a.m. Tuesday at N.C. 111 and Zion Church Road, the Highway Patrol said. Bobby Gene Capps, 53, of N.C. 903 North, LaGrange, was released after emergency-room treatment. The driver of a tractor-trailer, James Hawley, 38, of Wilbert Lane, Pikeville, was charged with failure to reduce speed. The report said Capps was starting to make a left turn as Capps pulled out to pass.
Buses vandalized
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*Fire extinguishers were stolen between Sunday and Wednesday from five school buses at Brogden Middle School and then were emptied in three buses, sheriff's deputies said. One extinguisher was recovered. The other four were valued at $145. Damages were set at $100.
*A wheelchair, ramps, a propane gas tank and heater and a television were stolen between Tuesday and Wednesday from a barn on N.C. 581 North, deputies said. The owner, Gary W. Ward of Pikeville, put a $4,310 value on his property. No sign of forced entry was listed.
*A gunshot before dawn today damaged a window and a wall in a home in the 6000 block of Highland Avenue, deputies said. The resident, Larry Lee Ward, estimated damage at $225.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A television, a headboard, a dresser and a night stand were stolen Wednesday after a window was smashed at a home in the 100 block of A Street, police said. The resident, Ricky Turner, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,300 and damage at $50.
*A video recorder and a wallet with $93 were stolen Wednesday after a door glass was broken at a home in the 600 block of East Beech Street, police said. The resident, J.A. Pence, put a $445 value on the stolen property and set damage at $100.
