3 airmen report

break-ins, thefts

Three airmen at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base said they had almost $10,000 worth of property stolen over the weekend, according to law-enforcement reports.

The property included $5,337 worth of Air Force camera equipment that was stolen from the trunk of an airman's car, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office reported.

Christine M. Griffin reported that the theft occurred between Thursday and Monday in the 100 block of Scott Hills Drive, where she lived. No sign of forced entry was listed.

The equipment included two cameras, two lenses, a flash unit, batteries, a battery charger, a flash cord, a camera body and a voice recorder. She also said her phone charger, valued at $10, was taken.

Meanwhile, two handguns with three magazines, two dummy guns and video-game equipment were stolen Monday from a home in the 1800 block of Sexton Street, Goldsboro police said.

The thief had damaged a door in order to enter the home, police said. The resident, Joseph N. Hedin, estimated the value of the handguns, a Ruger and a compact .45 caliber, at $1,280, and the other property at $1,020. He set damage at $150.

The third airman said video-game equipment, 27 DVDs, three pairs of Air Jordan shoes and a pair of boots were stolen Monday after a door glass was smashed at his home in the 1300 block of North James Street.

The resident, Joshua Davis, estimated the value of the stolen property at $1,815 and damage at $150.

Break-ins

Wayne County law-enforcement officers are investigating these reports:

*A keyboard and a socket tool set were stolen between Wednesday and Monday from a home in he 400 block of Kelly Springs Road, sheriff's deputies said. The thief had damaged a door to get inside. The resident, Pamela S. Teachey, estimated the value of the stolen property at $800 and damage at $200.

*Two amplifiers, two speakers and a battery charger were stolen Monday after the doors, a window and the hatch of a sport utility vehicle were damaged in the 500 block of Beal Street, Goldsboro police said. The owner, Darryl Best of Pikeville, put a $620 value on the stolen property and estimated damage at $1,000.

*Video-game equipment, seven movie DVDs and six movie videos were stolen Monday after a door was damaged at a home in the 400 block of Cardinal Drive, police said. The resident, Lakeasha Glaspie, estimated the value of the property at $580 and damage at $100.

*A digital camera and a television were stolen between Wednesday and Monday from Goldsboro High School, police said. The property was valued at $710. No sign of forced entry was reported.

*A compact disc player was stolen between Wednesday and Monday after a car window was shattered at United Auto Brokers at 1903 N. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The CD player was valued at $120. No damage estimate was listed.

Drug charge

A teen-ager from Dudley was arrested Monday by Goldsboro police and charged with a felony drug offense near Seymour Johnson Homes.

Darryl J. Williams, 16, of Timber Hollow Place was charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana. He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 secured bond.

Car rams tree

A driver who was arguing with his passenger lost control of the car that he was driving, and it slammed into a tree, the Highway Patrol said. Both people were injured.

The driver, Orenthal James Battle, 27, of Winslow Circle, left Wayne Memorial Hospital without being treated, a spokeswoman said. His passenger, Altina K. Smith, 32, of U.S. 117 Alternate, Dudley, was treated and released from the hospital.

The wreck occurred at about 2 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 117 Alternate near Outlaw Road. Battle was driving south and said Ms. Smith grabbed the steering wheel, causing him to lose control of the car. Ms. Smith denied grabbing the wheel, the report said.

Ms. Smith said she did not remember that the car hit a tree off the left side of the road. Battle then took the vehicle to Goldsboro. Damage was set at $1,500.

15 people injured

in Wayne collisions

Fifteen people were injured and damages were estimated at $124,600 in 17 recent traffic collisions in Wayne County, officers said

*Damages were estimated at $14,000 in a two-car collision at 10:51 a.m. Monday at North Berkeley Boulevard and a ramp to Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, Goldsboro police said. The report said a northbound driver, Michael Tolliver Anthony, 23, of Greg Lane, Snow Hill, was making a left turn and his car collided with an oncoming, southbound auto driven by Tina Marie Scales, 34, of Harding Place. No charges were filed.

*A sport utility vehicle was demolished in a wreck at 10:40 a.m. Sunday on Camp Jubilee Road near Adams Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Irvin Avendano, 21, of Cabin Creek Road, Seven Springs, was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving. The SUV that he was driving ran off the right side, came back across the road, ran off the left side out of control, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said. The SUV was valued at $6,000.

*Damage was estimated at $10,000 in a one-truck wreck at 11 a.m. Sunday on Hooks Road near Stuckey Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Treven Ray Strickland, 16, of Saulston Road, was charged with exceeding a safe speed and driving left of center. The pickup ran off the right side in a curve, came back across the road, struck a ditch and overturned, the report said.

*Two people were injured and damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:25 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 13 near Central Heights Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Brittani Nicole Schultze, 15, and her passenger, Paula T. Schultze, 37, both of Wayne Memorial Drive, Pikeville, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. The other driver, Cori Michelle Bryan, 19, of South Pineview Avenue, who was leaving from a convenience store, was charged with a safe-movement violation. Her sport utility vehicle collided with the Schultzes' southbound car.

*Damages were estimated at $6,300 in a two-vehicle crash at 3:35 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 70 near Long's Plant Farm Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Jack Frost Cooley Jr., 51, of Raleigh, was slowing for turning traffic, the report said. A minivan, driven by the following motorist, Nestor Alexander Walker, 15, of Kenansville, collided with the rear of Cooley's pickup.

*A westbound pickup was demolished in a wreck at about 5 p.m. Friday on Hood Swamp Road near Corbett Road, and the driver fled, the Highway Patrol said. The truck was registered to James Thomas Melton IV of Brookshire Drive, troopers said. The truck, valued at $7,000, ran off the right side, struck a sign and a ditch and overturned.

*Four people were injured in a one-car wreck at 10:23 p.m. Thursday on Nahunta Road near Fields Road, the Highway Patrol said. The driver, Elvira Elizabeth Eidson, 18, of Selma, and her passengers, Alicia Briggs, 15, of Kenly, Devon Andrews, 17, of Party Road, Pikeville, and Marlon Artis, 18, of Blank Street, Fremont, were released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Eidson was charged with exceeding a safe speed after the car ran off the left side, struck a ditch and overturned. The car was valued at $3,500.

*Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $16,000 in a two-vehicle collision at 12:20 p.m. Thursday at U.S. 13 and Durham Lake Road, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Michael Anthony Wheaton, 25, of Flowers Road, Mount Olive, and his passenger, Howard Reid, 23, of Emanuel Place, Dudley, and the other driver, Terry Lee Murchinson, 38, of Timothy Street, Dudley, were released after emergency-room treatment. Murchinson was charged with a yield violation. He had started a left turn and his car collided with a northbound pickup that Wheaton was driving, the report said.

*A passenger was injured in a two-car crash at 6:02 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 13 near Hood Swamp Road, the Highway Patrol said. Joseph Stroud, 7, of Church of God Road, and the other driver, was released after emergency-room treatment. He was riding with Fonda Bost Lee, 34, of Church of God Road. The other driver, Waltraut P. Barton, 73, of Old Grantham Road, was charged with a safe-movement violation. She had started a left turn and her car collided with an oncoming, northbound auto driven by Ms. Lee. Damages were put at $5,500.

*Two people were injured in a two-vehicle collision at 10 a.m. Thursday at U.S. 13 and Tommy's Road, the Highway Patrol said. A westbound driver, Edwin Earl Newsome, 32, of Tommy's Road, and his passenger, Teresa Anderson, 41, of Mill Creek Crescent Drive, were released after emergency-room treatment. A northbound motorist, Willlie Maurice Herring, 52, of Trailwood Drive, Dudley, was charged with a stoplight violation. Damages were set at $4,500.

*A driver was injured and damages were estimated at $8,000 in a two-car crash at 1:40 p.m. Thursday at O'Berry and McArthur Pond roads, the Highway Patrol said. Mary A. Wall, 47, of Merrywood Drive was released after emergency-room treatment. She also was charged with driving while her license was revoked. The other driver, Edgar Alfred Campbell, 40, of North Timber Place, Dudley, was charged with a yield violation. Campbell was pulling from McArthur Pond Road and the car that he was driving collided with the northbound auto that Ms. Walls was operating.

*Damages were estimated at $8,500 in a two-vehicle collision at 5:45 p.m. Thursday at Indian Springs and Camp Jubilee roads, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Raul Sanchez Correa, 30, of Garner, who was pulling from Camp Jubilee Road, was charged with a yield violation at a stop sign. Correa's sport utility vehicle collided with an eastbound minivan driven by Marco Antonio Gamez, 25, of Havelock.

*A driver was charged with reckless driving at 10:40 p.m. Wednesday after the car that she was operating ran off the right side of Salem Church Road near Fedelon Trail and struck a power pole, the Highway Patrol said. Ashley Nicole Hudson, 17, of U.S. 117 North was not injured. Damages were estimated at $7,000.

*A driver was injured and the car that he was operating was demolished in a wreck at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 117 near Governor Aycock Road, the Highway Patrol said. Laura Lynette Lucas, 26, of Stanley Chapel Church Road, Mount Olive, was released after emergency-room treatment. Ms. Lucas was charged with not having an operator's license. The car ran off left side in a curve, struck a guard rail and overturned down an embankment, the report said. Damages were fixed at $5,500.

*Damages were estimated at $7,000 in a two-truck crash at 3:15 p.m. Nov. 23 on True Vine Road near U.S. 13, the Highway Patrol said. One driver, Carmen Santo Stagnitti, 66, of Curlew Street, was charged with a safe-movement violation. The report said Stagnitti was backing from a private driveway and the pickup that he was driving collided with a southbound pickup operated by Jimmy Steven Kennedy, 42, of Warsaw.

*A driver was charged with a stop-sign violation after a wreck at 6:25 a.m. Nov. 22 at Mount Carmel Church Road and N.C. 111, the Highway Patrol said. Diane S. James, 50, of Mount Carmel Church Road, Pikeville, was not injured, but her minivan sustained about $8,300 in damages.

*A driver was injured and her van was demolished in a wreck at 1:50 p.m. Nov. 22 on Indian Springs Road near Kelly Springs Road, the Highway Patrol said. Judy A. Wiggins, 61, of Crest Drive, Mount Olive, was treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital. No charges were filed after the can ran off the right side, then came back across the road, striking a power pole off the left side. Damages were put at $6,000.
