Children to receive toys, gifts

Poverty's child knows the sinking feeling that follows hearing his teacher say, "You may bring one toy that you got for Christmas for Show & Tell."

It was for this child that the Empty Stocking Fund was created in 1912.

Contributions from the community and the volunteer efforts of members of Goldsboro Woman's Club and the Continental Society will make it possible for 610 children in Wayne County to receive gifts they can be proud of this Christmas.

The children will be invited to a party where each will receive a nice toy, a pair of slacks with a matching top and socks, and the traditional stocking filled with fruit, nuts and candy.

At least $33,000 is needed to pay for the clothes, toys and treats.

Donations may be mailed to the News-Argus, P.O. Box 10629, Goldsboro, N.C., 27532; or brought to the newspaper office at 310 N. Berkeley Blvd.

All donations are published in the News-Argus, and photographs will be published with presentations of $300 or more.
