Alert caller helps
police arrest teens
An alert neighbor's call enabled Goldsboro police on Thursday night to catch two teen-agers inside an apartment in the 900 block of Evergreen Avenue, according to a police report.
The caller said she saw two people enter the home through a window. Police arrived, found a door unlocked and arrested the teens, both 14. The suspects who were not identified because of their age were placed in the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center in Greenville.
Three cell phones, a watch and other property were recovered. The resident, Isiah L. Uzzell, also reported the theft of a camcorder, a game system and a DVD player, valued at $1,199.
Two people robbed
Two people were robbed during the long holiday weekend, Goldsboro police reports said.
Deborah Creech, 40, of Seven Springs was knocked on the head and robbed of $80 and personal papers, police said. She told officers that she was using a pay phone at 500 S. George St. at about 6:10 a.m. Saturday when a man assaulted her, took her property and fled in a tractor-trailer with a Pontiac Trans Am on the trailer.
The robber was described as black, in his 30s, 5-feet-8 and 150 pounds with a slender build, black hair and brown eyes. He wore a white T-shirt, jeans and a black coat.
Benjamin Wiggins, 51, of Goldsboro reported that a man put something in his back at about 10 p.m. Thursday in his home in the 200 block of North George Street. Wiggins said the man took $12, his wallet, three bottles of beer and a pack of cigarettes. The stolen property was valued at $30.
The suspect was described as black, 5-feet-11 and 200 pounds with a goatee. He wore a black jacket, a black hooded shirt and blue jeans. He ran west on Mulberry Street.
Anyone with information on either holdup was asked to call police at 705-6572 or Goldsboro-Wayne County Crime Stoppers at 735-2255.
Drug arrests
Goldsboro police say they searched a house on Newsome Street and found 18 grams of cocaine, $6,711 in cash and a fugitive from New Jersey.
Quaashon Marquise Phillips, 23, of Olivia Lane was charged with possession with intent to sell cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of selling cocaine. He also was wanted on a fugitive warrant from New Jersey.
He was placed in the Wayne County Jail in lieu of a $600,000 secured bond. He was also charged with an order for arrest for not paying child support, which has a $1,000 bond.
The resident of the Newsome Street address, Ashley Strickland, age 22, was charged with harboring a fugitive. Her bond was $1,000.
In a separate incident, police also charged Melody Head Raynor, 33, of Stronach Avenue with selling cocaine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was jailed in lieu of a $7,500 secured bond.
Three hurt in wrecks
Three people were injured and damages were estimated at $17,200 in four recent traffic collisions in Goldsboro, police reported.
*Damages were estimated at $6,000 in a two-car crash at 12:55 a.m. Sunday on Royall Avenue near North Drive, Goldsboro police said. One driver, Edward D. Kornegay, 31, of Randall Lane, was charged with a yield violation. Police said the southbound auto that Kornegay was driving collided with an eastbound car driven by Lonnie Coley III, 22, of Randall Place.
*Two people were injured in a two-car, hit-and-run collision at 5:15 p.m. Friday at South George and West Pine streets, police said. One driver, Rashand Leontrick Marshall, 29, of Lorease Drive, Dudley, and his passenger, Jimmy Horton, 39, of Fussell Street, were treated and released from Wayne Memorial Hospital, a spokeswoman said. An eastbound car ran the stop sign and collided with Marshall's northbound auto. The other driver fled. The second car was registered to Natasha D. Manley of Rollingwood Drive, Dudley, police said. Damages were set at $1,700.
*A driver from Mount Olive was injured in a one-truck wreck at 12:15 a.m. Thursday on Dr. M.L. King Jr. Expressway, the U.S. 70 bypass, near the Spence Avenue exit, police said. Brandy M. Boomhower, 20, of West Pine Forest Road left Wayne Memorial Hospital against medical advice, a spokeswoman said. She told police that she answered a call on her cell phone, the pickup ran off the left side, she overcorrected the steering and the truck ran off the right side, struck a ditch and overturned. Police said she fled but was found lying down in a passenger seat of a vehicle on Sunburst Drive. She was charged with hit and run and not having an operator's license. Damage was put at $4,500.
*Damages were estimated at $5,000 in a two-vehicle crash at 2:05 p.m. Thursday on Evergreen Avenue near Creech Street, police said. One driver, Elizabeth Johnson Hulse, 46, of South William Street, was charged with reckless driving. Police said she was talking on a cell phone and her sport utility vehicle collided with a parked car. The car was registered to Gerald Deon Ramey of Evergreen Avenue.
Rental locker theft
Wayne County sheriff's deputies are investigating these reports:
*An estimated $6,605 worth of property was stolen between July 29 and Friday from a rental storage locker at 1340 Claridge Nursery Road, sheriff's deputies said. The renter, Brenda Kay Hall of Stamford, N.Y., reported the loss of clothing, 50 music compact discs, 150 cassette tapes, 60 baby blankets, a necklace, two microwaves, small appliances, toys and decorative items.
*A boom box, two compact disc players and an amplifier were stolen between Friday and Saturday after a car window and a vinyl top were damaged at Trade Fair Motors at 4332 U.S, 70 West, deputies said. The car's owner, Norwood J. Beasley Jr. of Princeton, estimated the value of the missing property at $700 and damage at $850.
*Compact disc players were stolen between Friday and Saturday after four vehicles were broken into at Jackie's Used Cars at 2091 U.S. 70 West, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $1,425. Damage was set at $900.
*A combination radio and compact disc player, an amplifier and a speaker were stolen between Friday and Saturday after an unlocked sport utility vehicle's dashboard was damaged at S&M Wholesale Sales at 4044 U.S. 70 West, deputies said. The stolen property was valued at $925. Damage was put at $200.
*A diamond engagement ring and about $18 were stolen Sunday after a door was damaged at a home in the 2100 block of Old Smithfield Road, deputies said. The resident, M.A. Jordan, said the ring was worth $399 and estimated damage at $100.
Investigations
Goldsboro police are investigating these reports:
*A stereo was stolen between Friday and Saturday after a car window was smashed at Wheels of Goldsboro at 1100 W. Grantham St., police said. The stereo was valued at $300. Damage was put at $100.
*A radio was stolen between Friday and Saturday after a car window was shattered and the dashboard damaged at Boulevard Auto Sales at 115 S. Berkeley Blvd., police said. The radio was valued at $150. Damages were set at $750.
*A DVD player was stolen between Tuesday and Saturday after a door was damaged at a home in the 1000 block of South John Street, police said. The resident, R.N. Bryant, said the player was worth $200 and set damage at $20.ß
