Shooting

A 14-year-old boy was shot Friday as he walked through the park at the Courtyard Apartments. According to the police report, the juvenile was heading towards the building numbered 200, when he saw a blue car drive by him. He then heard three shots, and felt a stinging in his leg.

He told officers that he didn't know who had fired at him, or why.

Shoplifting charges

An 84-year-old woman was arrested Friday for shoplifting and resisting arrest at Wal-Mart.

According to the police report, Mylie G. Cromantie, took a variety of items and concealed them in her pocketbook. She then allegedly left the store without paying for the items.

The merchandise was valued at $45.65.

Three juvenile girls were also caught concealing several items at Wal-Mart. The girls allegedly took $76 worth of costume jewelry, make-up and under garments. They were released to the custody of their grandmother.

A 50-year old man was issued a citation for larceny after allegedly taking almost $30 worth of goods from Eckerds.

According to the police report, William Henry Best of Hare Road, concealed a camera and a teeth whitening kit , and then left the store.

Michael Kittrell, 17, was also charged by police for concealing a $10 pair of earrings at Belks Department Store.

Two men were charged with shoplifting at the Piggly Wiggly Store on Lionel Street. Charles Anthony Cates, 41, Franklin Street, is accused of concealing a $5 pint of Smirnoff Ice. Willie James Carraway, 51, allegedly concealed a $12 ham.
